Thank you so much for taking the time to describe these new trains for those of us who are visually impaired and cannot see the cars and what is in them. Your walk-through and description was very useful to me in particular seeing as I am blind and have no vision at all. When I eventually get to ride in one of these cars, at least I now know what to look forward to because of your awesome walk-through. Thank you again for producing these awesome videos for train lovers such as myself.

These trains are absolutely amazing! Great walkthrough and honestly I can't wait to ride them.
@aussiejohn5835Ай бұрын
I really enjoyed this walk through without the screaming hordes of enthusiasts and the gloating politicians, but having said that, the excitement of the first day was great to see. I was a critic of these trains but I am now a convert who can't wait to be baptised by the experience. The stairs are not as steep as the rest of the fleet which will help those with mobility issues to access both decks a little easier. Non flipping seats is still an issue for those of us with medical conditions but in my case I will always join the train at Central when the choice of seating won't be an issue. I wonder if the guard will always occupy the rear cabin on the 8 car set or will they have a choice to occupy the cabin in the centre of the train like the 8 car Tsets. I like the ambience of the quiet carriages with the darker ceilings which will also assist in absorbing some of the sound as well as making it easier to recognise the quiet carriages. Time will tell if the tray tables are indeed unbreakable but I think they will be a great graffiti table for those so inclined. Excellent video, well done Phil 👍👏
@Roadrunnerz45Ай бұрын
I did not know the guard has a choice in the t set. It would be rare for them to be at the back? What about the Oscars do you know?
@aussiejohn5835Ай бұрын
@Roadrunnerz45 I worded it incorrectly, and they don't have a choice, but I am wondering if the union will give them the choice with the Dsets. It has been a tradition for guards to be in the middle of the train until Waratah was introduced because they don't have a cabin in the centre of the train and can only be operated with 8 cars.
@Roadrunnerz45Ай бұрын
@aussiejohn5835 one of the major changes the union wanted with these trains was the ability of the guard to look out the train when leaving the platform. It would therefore be easier for them to do this from the rear rather than middle having to look both up and down.
@aussiejohn5835Ай бұрын
@@Roadrunnerz45 You are correct about the Dset cabin doors which, by the way were always able to operate independently of the passenger doors with a simple isolating mechanism ( I have a photo of this on the first Dset that was on display at Central Station for politicians and union officials). The placement of the guard in the middle of the trains was for safety of passengers and the convenience of passengers who didn't have to run to the rear of the train on 8 car sets to inform the guard of a emergency or just to make enquiries. You may have noticed that emergency help points and disability ramps are mostly located in the middle of platforms for this reason. The Dsets have the capability to operate as 4,6,8 or ten car sets with multiple guard cabins which is why I questioned the placement of the guard on these sets.

Enjoyed the video and gave it a 👍🏽. Today, I travelled to Gosford from Fassifern in a D set and found that the seating was on par with the Oscars. Unfortunately the ugly coloured seats of the V set are much more comfortable. I noticed they (V) appear to recline slightly more. The return journey was in V set that was grotty and the windows were gray with soot and grim. I really enjoyed the modern amenities of the D sets. I am non-plussed about the seating with my back to the direction of travel.

Thanks for that. Good to know that the bike racks are next to the quiet carriage and have a bike logo on the outside of the car. Nothing worse than struggling with those doors and the limited space on the V sets when travelling with bike. Not a pleasant experience.

This Train entered Service? Yay! BTW, The Buzzer sound reminds me of the UK London Metro Julibee line. You should compare this new train with the UK London Metro Julibee line Train. their electric buzzer sounds similar If I Ride this and I want or need to charge my phone, That sounds like a good idea to buy an adapter.

i was on the same train from woy woy (arrived 6.31 but it was about 3 or 4 minutes late) to gosford i was on my way to work i had to change trains at gosford to go to lisarow as this train doesnt stop there the other train was a Vset and it was old and run down compared to this one - my first thoughts were it nice and bright i wasnt on long enough to really tell if the seats were really comfortable or not they were ok for the short distance i travelled but i would have to find out travelling say from woy woy to central or newcastle i didnt like the fixed seating (i can sit backwards but i am so used to reverable seating i woud rather face the direction i am travelling in) the USB sockets and powerpoints are a good edition but it prbably wouldnt be long until they are vandalised and i also like the information screens when the train got to gosford it says to " ëxit here for hospitals and central coast staduim " also the next stops and how long it will take to get there

As an amateur gunzel, I'd like to ask an experienced gunzel like yourself: How do you find out which services are being worked by which sets? I'm looking at doing a Newcastle-Sydney day trip at some point in late December or early January and I'd like to take the opportunity to make at least one of those trips in a D Set.
@markswan3209Ай бұрын
The TripView app will tell you the type of set which is operating each run. It’s reasonably reliable, though the current industrial action may play havoc with the run information TripView relies upon.

To be fair, I'd much rather ride backwards in one of those seats than forwards in one of the reversible ones from the older trains. I think that decision was a good one tbh. At the same time, I'm from Adelaide so I'm stuck in a 30 year old diesel with seats like concrete.
