I know it’s splitting hairs, but words do matter. In his official statements he wanted to stop “illegal” immigration, legally these people are defined as aliens. The reason the words matter is that he was pro immigration from Mexico and his policies sped up the immigration from Mexico significantly, but the wall stopped a major money source of the Mexican cartel and severely reduced deaths while crossing and child trafficking. At one point during his first term, the line at the border ran completely dry with more applications than ever before because illegal alien numbers had dropped so sharply. It is also important to note that many illegal aliens form the USA souther border are not Mexican but are from other nations and traveling to the USA through Mexico. He had also made political moves against the Mexican government which changed their policies to disallow people traveling through Mexico to seek asylum in the USA when they could seek the exact same asylum in Mexico. Not to criticize, but just to point out that saying he was keeping out “Mexican immigrants” is kind of like saying “my dad gave birth to me” it’s like, close, but not quite.

@@dansir4102 considering where I lived and the human rights violations he put on those "aliens". we were not able to house them all, nor was our area even able to supply. we were supposed to house for a couple weeks, people were packed like sardines for months. so sure, if you cherry pick the good, it sounds great, but the numbers didn't drop all that much compared to the normal drop per year trend, and all it did was slow down the cartels. the line "running dry" never happened beyond one port of entry, for less than 3 hours. of course "ran completely dry with more applications than ever before" makes no sense in the slightest. as for "speeding up" immigration? it didn't, it stayed on the same rising trend it had kept following for the last decade before he even was elected. as for "political move", Mexico literally just got tired of his shit after his wall flooded and killed dozens of people on border towns by blocking runoff routes that water used to take. He explicitly stated Mexico and Mexican people. He said "Mexico is sending their worst", not "the worst are coming from mexico". He also said terrorists came through mexico, when all the know terrorists have either lived in the US their whole lives or immigrated through a coastal port of entry.
