Josh Middleton has always been up-front about Sylosis' sound. Their primary influence is Bay Area thrash, and you can hear it in their music. What really makes them different is Josh's playing style, which is super technical and intricate. You might miss some of the cool things he does on guitar if you're not listening closely. Also, his phrasing during solos is freaking phenomenal. He plays the technical shred that everybody wants, but manages to do so without making it sound like he's just wanking off on the guitar. That's why he's one of my favorite guitarists in metal. I'm so pumped Sylosis is back.

His solo album JMP was an absolute masterpiece, no lyrics needed. Josh and sylosis in general are extremely underrated. "Edge of the earth" is one of the best metal albums full stop, its a masterpiece.

So much sick shit, the riffs and solos of his are just god level, edge of the earth and monolith are my favorite but the guitar fuckin rules on conclusion of an age and all their other albums, guy is a very special musician. His combo of guitar skill/vocals/songwriting is almost unmatched in metal history in my Book.

I’m glad ya checked Sylosis out. You would probably like their earlier stuff a lot more. Before josh became the vocalist, Jamie graham the old vocalist of heart of a coward was the original vocalist of Sylosis. They were a lot more technical then, more melodic. Like the songs after lifeless years, and teras. Two amazing songs. Then the album edge of the earth came out and that’s where josh 1st became the vocalist. Still a great album though, songs like apparitions and the serpents tongue. You will have to dip back into them and check those songs out sometime.
