I remember back when Jamie left the band and sylosis made a video of themselves discussing "what are we gonna do about vocals?" and Josh literally goes "I'll do it" and they cut to him doing vocals and CRUSHING it. Here we are years later and They've been churning out masterpiece after masterpiece.

He always does the most tasteful and un-cliche stuff in his solos. Almost zero pentatonic blues-inspired wankery (which I do love, but it can get stale), and a sense of melody that is unrivaled in my opinion.

@@13guitard00d I'm a little late to your comment but one of Josh's main influences in solos and note/scale/mode choice is Chuck Schuldiner from the band Death. He's no longer with us but Josh is 100% keeping his legacy alive in his kickass solos on Sylosis stuff. Chuck was an amazing player and if you like Josh solos, you'd definitely like chucks!

I don't understand how they aren't bigger. They rip the balls off 99 percent of their peers. Plus there is actual craft not just sloppy brutality. The riffs are catchy, no sell out, just groove, technicality and deliciousness

Agreed 100%. Maybe, because of this and their underlying thrash and doom routes make them less digestible to mainstream metal fans? They've been incredible within the UK scene for years now. Their conclusion of an age album combined thrash and metalcore elements I would say. Ever since Edge of the Earth, they've taken a brilliant increasingly heavier, and doomy direction. Just brilliant.

@Sam I think it would be cool if they were in mainstream (making THIS type of music. I don’t mean to be elitist when I say that though). I think that they should be huge. I get your argument, BUT at the same time I think that they really deserve to be like Lamb Of God level. Their music is amazing. Sure it feels cool to discover a band that isn’t so well known, but there are really big bands that sound great as well.

I remember the first time I saw them live. Oregon 2012 they were on tour with LoG. I was completely blown away. Hadn’t heard anything so tightly played, was just in awe the whole time fucking solid band. Became an instant fan that night. I’m not gonna say I listen to them all the time, but when I do listen, I just binge the shit out of their music 🤘🏽

If you’re a fan of Sylosis which everyone should be because they’re amazing check out the album Gehenna gate by Lucis absentia, pretty much unheard of but man it’s so good, they have a very similar sound to Sylosis and the album is amazing and it makes me sad nobody has heard it. You’re correct tho Sylosis should be way bigger, they’re so good.

Been a Sylosis fan since 2011 and have absolutely loved everything they've put out. I've recently discovered Orbit Culture on Soilwork radio and holy shit are they amazing. Been absolutely hooked for a few weeks now. When concerts are a reality again, Sylosis and OC will be at the top of my list. Two incredible bands in peak form. What's not to love?

My favourite thing about Sylosis is their massive melodic sections. At 3:10 for instance. When the chords ring and the vocals just soar or like the outro of Idle Hands for instance... ambient, huge and mighty powerful. Those are the parts I listen to Sylosis for, absolutely mighty
