Sylvester James, Jr. better known as Sylvester, was an American disco and soul singer-songwriter. Known for his flamboyant and androgynous appearance, he was often described as a drag queen, although he repeatedly rejected such a description. Responsible for a string of hit singles in the late 1970s, Sylvester became known in the United States under the moniker of the "Queen of Disco."

Más allá de sus preferencias sexuales, su vida pública y privada, fue su extraordinario talento lo que aún prevalece en sus magnificas canciones. Y por qué mencionó lo de su "preferencia sexual", es porque en el tiempo en que él estaba en lo máximo de su carrera, jamás vi un video o reportaje de sus presentaciones, sólo tenía como referencia la portada del disco "You make me feel", que llegó a México, en donde estaba él y las chicas que le acompañaron, también el tema ""Dance". Tuve la fortuna de verlo en el Palacio de los Deportes en aquella mítica "Producción Maestra de Polymarchs", un sábado 26 de Abril de 1986... Saludos desde Ajijic, Jalisco, México.

Sylvester uno de mis temas favoritos de él 1ro que nada son, Trouble in paradise & Someone like you, corría el año de 1984 y Sylvester se presentó en el palacio de los Deportes, tenía tan solo 12 añitos nada más,mis hnos asistieron al lugar,gran evento con Polymarchs también icono del High Energy en su pleno apogeo,citando a más de 50 sonidos en este evento único,tengo 47 años y a la fecha,sigo fiel y amando la voz única de un gran cantante como lo fué,Sylvester! Me perdí desgraciadamente ir a verlo pero jamás lo olvido ,Rip Sylvester.
