After countless viewings of the Rocky films over the years, nobody but Carl Weathers could have played Apollo Creed. He just had that charisma, and ego, that embodied a champ boxer. Sly wanted him for that role and it was perfect choice. I actually didn't know until recently watching Good Morning Football, that he played briefly for the Raiders in the '70s. Also never forget him in Predator, and Happy Gilmore :)

It was done very well and realistic like a Brian’s Song was done. It put these guys up against one another but in the end they we alike in more ways than 1 and became great friends. We see Apollo in Rocky 2 and 4 kind of gloating his abilities as a boxer. We saw the same thing from Balboa in Rocky3. Incredible well written story. Wish they hadn’t killed off the Apollo character though. Beating him and ending his boxing career would have been better.
