Burke once stood in for Snatch It Back's frontman Chris for a few months when he'd lost his voice. So just playing pub gigs and evidently loving it; he was so at ease with an audience of any size, having a laugh and a joke and rocking the roof off the place. More than just a gentleman, a true rocker for whom the music was the thing. It was a real privilege to have witnessed those small gigs mostly at the Royal Oak, full of bikers and seen him up close.

Yes, I saw Budgie many, many times at the Croydon Greyhound on a Sunday night. Between the years 1972-1976. Some nights it was packed but some nights we could sit on the front of the stage and just let them blow our ears to pieces. It took 3 days before the ringing stopped but oh man did we have a great time. Had many a beer with Tony Bourge and burke. Burke used to tell us his favourite band was the carpenters but I never knew if he was pulling our plonker or not. We saw Thin lizzy too on the same stage many times and they played even louder. Strangly enough I can still hear perfectly.

I've always been a Budgie fan. When Metallica ever covered this song and Crash Course in Brain Surgery on their Garage Days album it was a breath of fresh air to know that other bands had respect for Budgie...

Had no idea Metallica covered these legends!!

When I first listened to this song, it was off the Garage Days Revisited album. I thought Metallica had recorded it at first but then I took a closer look at the liner notes and finally knew the truth. This was way before KZbin. Then many years later, I heard Budgie play it for the first time right here. Somehow the opening riff sounds 100x better than what James or Kirk (or both?) plays. Plus I believe Metallica plays it higher on the musical scale. I like this version much better except the solo. Kirk's playing sounds more melancholy.-like, which is how a lot of their songs sound. Although I have no idea what the spoken high-pitched voice at the very end of the song asking "Mommy, where is fluffy?" (that's what it sounds like to me) is supposed to mean or how it ties into the song. Anyone know or have an idea?
@Pewtooyou4 ай бұрын
@@jabbahut72 I can only figure the last line of the song "Mommy - where's fluffy" is that the song is about being infatuated with money and eventually becoming rich and blowing it all. So maybe they sold the dog for some cash and the little girl is asking where the dog went.

Can feel early Rush vibes on this track even before the singer starts singing! Killer track. Absolute monster bass line.

Love Budgie. I saw them 9 times in the early 80's in my teens in the UK. Great memories. Awesome, massively under-appreciated band. RIP Burke & JT. You are truly missed...

I just saw these guys on a documentary about Dave Mustaine on MTV. Being and old 73 graduate from high school and a short attempt at being a long haired rock and roller, this type of music is right up my alley. 66 years old now but wishing I had heard of these guys 50 years ago. I now have a newband/songs with these cats. Thank you technology. It's one of the few benefits of this world today in that something that brings joy to my soul. Thanks KZbin. You have done it once again. 💪👍🇺🇸♥️

Kudos to all the teens of the 70s who would find and support bands like budgie, and the record companies who signed these talented niche bands.
