I was literally raised on opera and classical symphonic music by a nanny when I was a child. Although I would go on to love Rock n roll, too, opera is still my favorite musical genre. It is sterling performances such as these that keep me coming back for more...and more. Bravo!

If only Thomas Quasthoff had played Papageno in The Magic Flute when he was still performing. Barenboim offered him Rigoletto, but he declined, for obvious reasons. But Papageno would be perfect for him, he could imbue the role with humor and his miraculous voice. A lost opportunity as he no longer sings publicly. A loss.
