We lost a good pilot, a very cool KZbinr and a friend of mine this month (Aug 2018). This video is dedicated to him, may he R.I.P. and fly with the Angels! IN MEMORY OF: Brian "Full Metal Heli" Schultz who's famous last words at the end of his videos was "Peace Out!!!" "I miss you bro!" -djsoulforce!!!

Very nice tribute to a great friend and fellow RC KZbin. When I first REALLY started looking into this great hobby it was you, Pete @RcEscape, and Brian Full Metal Heli Shultz that got me interested in the Bayangtoys X16 which is still an old favourite of mine today :) Brian was a cool and entertaining guy, gone but certainly not forgotten in the RC community. nice one DJ.

Very nice tribute DJ. When you first mentioned it, I visited Heli's channel and watched a few videos. Though I wasn't a regular subscriber, I did watch quite a few of his videos, and you're right, he was a character. One of my finest "quad flying days" was the day I unloaded my Syma X8 on a local guy who loved them. To me, it was a D - O - G ... it would fly backward in a 5-10 mph breeze. I did solve the jello problem on my X8C, and still have several videos up on my channel way back in the video list. When your 8HG took a dive, the motors stopped. It likely was a momentary loss of signal or RX overload from wi-fi interference .. which then unbound the X8 from the TX, shutting down the motors. Mostly Syma's fault, as they cheapened the X8 TX's antenna system to save a few pennies. I have 2 TXs .. one with the good antennas, and one with the cheap antenna. I pulled the latter apart and put an external 5dBi vertical on the back side of the TX, and that one now has range out the ying-yang .. but I have no X8 .. but the X8 TX works with the v6 X5C RX, and I have several of those receivers in various quads. I agree that Syma is now so far in the 'dark ages' with its brushed motor quads that they will have to sell at bargain basement prices. The X8's motors not only were prone to 'burn outs', but the F.E.T. drivers for those motors also failed with regularity .. just a poorly designed quad, IMHO. Well, I guess I've used up my comment space quota, so POW!

I remember when you first reviewed the cherry red Syma X8, I wanted it so bad back than. Thank for flying again and dedicating it to Full Metal/Brian, I didn't know him as well as you did, but I loved his Bayangtoys X16 video. By the way, on that Syma HD camera, if you have it set to 720p if will capture your image in 5Mp, and if you switch it to 1080p, it will capture the image in 8MP. It's a decent camera, the best Syma ever made, but the something is odd about the frame rate it records at. You put on screen that it is 30fps, but it doesn't look like it me. Another great production, and have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend.

Dude... great job of honoring your friend FMH!!! You guys will hang out and fly together some time further on, Force. So yeah... that thing just decided to drop. As we both know... sometimes that just happens. I mean, usually it’s me running out of battery, but sometimes it’s standing waves, or whatever. Around here we’ve got spots that will bring you down at their worst, or just kinda mess things up, if you’re lucky enough. I could mark those spots with flags and each time I got near one, bam! Giant cellphone tower just across the orchard from where we fly, puts out so much power... and if you’re flying a less powerful setup, like an MJX X400 or something... ... well... down you go. Lol 😝

That's funny because we have spots like that too. My buddy Eric & I have a saying that goes... "the airport pushed that button again!" Very good review DJ, I have been watching Heli's reviews ever since you first mentioned him passing. I still fly my X8HG and I think maybe that you may have accidentally held the throttle stick down too long and killed the motors. I did it quite a few times myself and had to eventually change the body on the quad because one of the motor arms broke off.

Thanks Greg for your feedback. My thumb was not on the throttle at the time the motors died, if anything, it was climbing or holding it's altitude... then BAM!!! Can't explain it except for Full Metal Heli did it!!! hahaha!!! Good news, the quad didn't have a scratch, can you believe that, coming from a Syma falling from that high???

Man you brought out some memories, now I'm going to get my slow-ass X8HG red bird out of the closet and give it another whirl in the sky. Syma had problems with the throttle on the X8 series as it would drop out of the sky if you pulled back on the throttle too fast, but it is a nice flyer with its cheap HD 1080p camera. It looks nice with its shinny red color in the sunlight. It's very easy to fly and durable too, the props were the only thing that would if you flew into a tree branch or power line. I remember Metal Heli used to demo a gold one and that thing was a beauty in the sunlight. RIP Metal Heli.

nice job broo! my x5 clone(lidi rc) did the very same thing a couple days ago while testing a x5c board flying fpv... i was flyin with a modded x5 tx with the bigboy antenna on it...i flew behind myself in that field and must have lost connection... xact same tumble/snow in the goggles.... nothing was hurt...shes a tuff gal...shes the one that spent 4 nights on a muddy riverbank... our kwadbrother brian is with all of us on every flight...even hes up in them goggles right there with us flyin fpv too... did my email ever make it? i hope so...

Hey did you fly that distance with the stock controller?I just flew my x8 c orange with antenna mod.I don’t think this had good range with out the antenna mod?I never did get a x8HG.

Yes, in this video everything is stock. I've flown it out over 300meters with no problems, but I've never done a max range test. I plan to do the antenna mod one of these days, lol!!! Thanks for stopping by Bruce!!!

Hello Mr SOUL FORCE. I have a question concerning the Jumper T8SG Lite. Do you know if it will bind with 3DR Solo. My Solo controller will not bind with 3DR. Says control stick error for a brief second on landing. Did factory reset on both quad and controller and since they refuse to talk to each other. I haven't seen you review 3DR but I believe i heard you talk about Jumper. Thanks for any help. Sincerely William Horsley

I'm sorry, I wish I could help you, but I do not own the 3DR Solo, and my Jumper is the original TS8G. The general "rule-of-thumb" is, don't use your Jumper for a GPS quad, it doesn't have any telemetry or other functions needed for operating in altitude hold or GPS. My friend has a Solo, so I'll ask him if he has any information on "how to bind" the 3DR transmitter to the Solo. I'll let you know...

#Dusty, I fully agree with you, I still call them quads because drones are used by the military to kill people. I think the FAA was the first to make the name change to drones so they could make rules to control them. That's my opinion.

...... Not trashing my original X-8 with white lion motors and range extended TX. To be true I finally first flew it a month ago. It was perfect as expected. Also found out the extra added benefit of the add-on LVC beeper, it will beep Loud till you come get her. Did not come to that but good to know. I was with my guy Dave, new to quads. Green. He took her up and brought her back feet-wise. ..My only hit on the Bugs3 , not having that come get me beeper. Like the 6.

... I would take a pic of it but I don't know how to get a pic on this YT comment thing. Less than $5 on BGG on you set the LVC threshold . And with a tiny bit of 2-sided sticky tape it slots in perfectly into one of the rear legs of the X8. And is loud as fock.
