As many of you may already know, this song holds a special place for me. What my daughter has been through in the past year has astonished us all. At such a young age, she’s already shown incredible strength of heart and spirit. With the video for this song, I wanted to capture what it is to be a kid. Young lives are filled with curiosity, tenderness, risk, joy, and sadness. I know it’s easy to look back in our childhood and remember it as “simple”, but I think it’s far from it. This video was directed by Hayley Young and shot in a beautiful location close to where I live. I’m so proud to share it now.

This song reminds me of my little sister who passed away a few years ago. It was a normal evening when she got really sick and in the morning when Mum woke her up she didn't wake up. She was an incredibly strong person who made anyone laugh. People in our village bullied her because she had downsyndrome but I didn’t let them say anything to her, I was always there for her. She was more than little sister, she was my best friend and the only person who made me smile even though we lived in war. I wish I could visit her grave someday, it’s war in Irak so I can’t visit her now but soon i hope. This song raises great memories of my beloved angel. 😭👼🏼

I love how the song is about this lovely girl while still showing a lot of the people and things around her (especially a few shots only shows her brother) since her observation of and connection with everything and everyone else in the world is part of her identity. My best friend when I was a boy, was a girl. We met when we were 8-years old, just starting the 3rd grade. Her house was just a short bike ride away. We had the same bus route. I have felt this way about my people in general ever since I was blessed enough to survive childhood cancer. I was lucky enough to put that feeling into practice while working in an Emergency Room and Anesthesia dept for 15+ years. Every man, woman, child, grandparent, parent, vagrant and absolutely everything in-between should get the opportunity to see and live life that way. Just because we are a certain age doesn't mean we don't have things to learn and moments to experience and marvel at, I know this as inner growth. She's (& her brother) has been through a couple brain surgeries and do medical infusions at Children's twice a month. I simply want to be there to show them how to navigate this life and to help them up when they fall. I want to hold their hand through the rough patches, instead of carrying them through. I realize this beautiful song is from a few years ago and the inspiration behind its lyrics makes it that more meaningful. I however, have only recently been introduced to its and Brian's ethereal sound. The song Girl came to me just after the death of my father. It was as if he meant for me to hear...words that he himself could not say to me, but were whole-heartedly felt. Life comes full circle and where it ends...it always begins. There may be times, Brian in your daughter's life that she may not appreciate you or your message to her, but know that her love for you will never faulter. She is blessed to have such a loving father and devoted family. One truly cannot value life unless there is pain...but with it comes much healing.
