Like you, low revs and throw around 9.5 mph especially after getting a 16# reactive. I seemed to be more consistent that way.

Lefty here. Good stuff Nick! I spent last seaaon rebuilding my bag. I started with a Pitch Black, then went with 3 symmetrical pieces, strong solid, strong pearl, weak pearl and struggled to maintain average. I had moments of greatness, but once I added a couple of asymmetrical pieces, my results have improved. Having a well rounded bag is optimal for suucess.

This is so important. I started learning about the hand when I was 17 (29 years ago) and worked in and ran several pro shops. So many people were still in the mindset of grip it and rip it that when I would initially change their grip, they would freak out until I explained how a ball would hang on to your hand with no effort with the proper pitches. "Go grab that football, but point your thumb away from your palm." As for finger pitches, I never recommended the grips with the lifts on them. I think they used to add 1/4 forward? I would add a 1/16 to the span for every 1/8 I added in reverse pitch. If I didn't tell them anything so they could experience it without any prejudice, they would tell me that the ball felt so good and now their other balls felt horrible. By the way, thanks Phil for the shout out to Bill. He was a wonderful person.

This was a wildly helpful video. I recently inherited a Radical Closer (sym) and Hammer Redemption Pearl. I find myself grabbing the Redemption way more. Even when i dont bowl well, i find myself preferring the Redemption. So, it makes sense after seeing this video. Because of the type of bowler i am, i do see that i benefit more from an asymmetrical

Im going with the pros on symetricals, which is why the cons of asymetrical opened up my eyes to putting my 15 year old diamondback back in heavy play now that i release the ball with my palm flat out at release, thumb pointing away from my body. Looking to buy symetrical this week with a slightly different pin position.👍😊

Superb video on this subject. This explained to me exactly why I tend to like symetrical balls more.

I have a set of Symmetrical balls (4) and a set of Asymmetrical balls (4) .. each from strong solid to weaker pearl. I find that when one type isn't working "quite" right, but is performing pretty well but just not quite close enough, I switch to the other type in that same compatible ball (ie: Asym Pearl to Sym Pearl, etc..) .. I have found that has worked pretty well for me. I generally prefer the Symmetrical balls because they are smoother (more continuous), but, sometimes you need that extra "pop" from an Asymmetrical ball. I would note that ALL of my balls are laid out with 45x4x35 (versatile).

As a speed dominant guy, when I use my Sym balls, I get the best results by slowing down. I typically let it fly with my Asyms, and when it forces me too far left for my lower revs, I transition to my sym. Some houses don't allow me to throw any of my Asyms.

Honestly tha k you for this. I have been bowling for about 2 years now and I still didn't really understand the difference between Assym and Sym.

At 18:11, I think he misspoke and said asymmetrical instead of symmetrical. I bought the Nova Asymmetrical series just because my granddaughter’s name is Nova. I wasn’t sure whether to drill them or save them for her. In any case, I’m a Low rev, low speed bowler and only have one asym. I like it but I generally use symmetrical balls for better control.

Because of my play style, I can only use Assymetrical ball. I can not play straight at all, to the point where I start at 20 and only moved left. I also have a lot of revs, with low ball speed. I think I have one symmetrical ball ( A DGV), and I haven’t used that ball in nearly two years. I’m tempted to try the new DV8 chill, because what from I read that ball seems to have a higher Dif. Otherwise, I am team asymmetrical

As a bowler with a lot of axis rotation and higher ball speed. I would think a Symmetrical ball would be better on a house shot. High axis rotation tends to make the ball skate to long on the puddle in the middle.

I forget where I heard this. But, I thought its the overstock which is important. And, since the ball goes down that lane fast enough that the core has little impact to ball motion?

These guys need to do a video that defines all of the bowling terms they are using for layman to understand what they are talking about. A beginner bowler who wants to become more advanced will be confused by this video.

That info is easy to come by when you research it. There is not a single topic with regards to bowling that is not covered by multiple people on KZbin.

thought you might like this comment, humorous with serious side, lol, I just changing to 14 lbs. , archetype hybrid and RG Hustle, I want a third ball to compliment the first two. Thank you for making water more muddy for me decision, I am Low rev low speed player, suggestions please. response from Nick and Phil would be nice, my guess I get two different answers, you can pick catagory of ball , core/coverstock or be ball specific, not making an immediate decision answer when you read this, thank you both again for all your do for bowlers and the sport of bowling to keep us in the game. 👊🤛👍

When you drill a symmetrical ball it becomes asymmetrical because you're taking one side of the ball out and distributing the weight of that ball. More people should be drilling asymmetrical balls pin down depending on their PAP to axis otation.

Most young bowlers now just try to emulate what they see from touring pros. It's not the proper way to learn but that won't stop them. All they want to do is throw the ball as hard as possible with as much hook as possible. If they had to bowl with hard rubber, plastic, polyester, or even pancake weight block urethane, they'd be lost. Most touring pros are lost without resin or modern urethane equipment. Accuracy is a lost art, which is why most lane patterns now simply create a wall to the pocket.

Thank you for info. Getting back into bowling after 3 years. I have the Pandemonium and a HB Intensity drilled at Nationals when my equipment t never made it to Vegas. I tried using 14# for awhile but going back to the 15# HB and Radical after bowling 4 weeks with 14#. The two are surprisingly drilled the same, 45 X 4 X 45 and seem 😅to react similarly. So nice to learn about the differences in sym and asym. Thanks again.
