I can't help but smirk every time I hear that over the top introduction of the waltz, followed by that gentle tune. Tchaikovsky was such a drama queen...

Maybe that was part of the genius of the composer - beginning the musical narration of the story with high drama (and indeed the story is filled with drama) and then contrasting it with a succeeding and less dramatic (and even sad) part of the narrative. I don't know anything about Tchaikovsky's personality but personality aside, I have no issue with these contrasting moods. Just a thought.

If the title has adagio or andante in it and the composer is Tchaikovsky, always expect a gorgeous and heart-melting melody.

How does one even come up with a melody like that of the valse? Pure genius.

Really enjoyed the depth you brought to this performance of Tchaikovsky's Suite. It's fascinating how the music evokes such vivid imagery. That said, I can't help but feel that sometimes the orchestration overshadows the ballet's emotional core. What do you all think?
