Kate performs "Symphony In Blue" on the 1979 Christmas special. The opening music is "Gymnopédie No.1" by Erik Satie.
Lyrics:
I spent a lot of my time looking at blue,
The colour of my room and my mood:
Blue on the walls, blue out of my mouth;
The sort of blue between clouds, when the sun comes out,
The sort of blue in those eyes you get hung up about.
When that feeling of meaninglessness sets in,
Go blowing my mind on God:
The light in the dark, with the neon arms,
The meek He seeks, the beast He calms,
The head of the good soul department.
I see myself suddenly
On the piano, as a melody.
My terrible fear of dying
No longer plays with me,
for now I know that I'm needed
For the symphony.
I associate love with red,
The colour of my heart when she's dead;
Red in my mind when the jealousy flies,
Red in my eyes from emotional ties,
Manipulation, the danger signs.
The more I think about sex, the better it gets.
Here we have a purpose in life:
Good for the blood circulation,
Good for releasing the tension,
The root of our reincarnations.
I see myself suddenly
On the piano, as a melody.
My terrible fear of dying
No longer plays with me,
for now I know that I'm needed
For the symphony.
I spent a lot of my time looking at blue--
No wonder that I blue it!

It must be so lovely to be a genius like Kate Bush. Nature gave her everything, beauty, health, and effortless musical genius.

People are an accumulation of their interests over life times. Whether you believe in reincarnation or not, look at nature. Everything works in cycles. The weather, evaporation, your actions upon others. Everyone is unique in their own way due to this fact. What makes her such an excellent artist is her passion for creativity. I’m sure you have your own skills whatever that may be that nobody else has. :)

She is great. I don’t believe things were effortless for her though. Her art comes partially from her struggles/ experiences. The most incredibly creative people use their own pain to produce the most amazing and emotional art.

Robert Johnson /Muddy Waters /Elvis/Bill Haley /Beatles /Stones/ Led Zep/Joni Mitchell /Hendrix...and then you throw the Kick Inside onto the turntable and just wonder where the hell does this emanate from and who had the guts/balls/fortitude to take a chance on producing/recording this and throwing it out there for the masses to consume.. just wow !! and totally in awe to this day !! :) 30+ years later incredible........on edit we really need to throw Aretha Franklin into the mix as far as effortless vocals are concerned for me both are top notch ...flip a coin for greatest of all time...both pack a severe punch without over extension and as a male it's completely incomprehensible where they project the human voice to and in extension our emotions..absolutely stunning...could you imagine a duet with these two????

It continues to amaze me how she makes everything she sings seem like heaven or otherwise just extremely cool. Like most people from the States, I discovered Kate in 1984 when "Hounds of Love" came out. I immediately bought all of her previous records and was even more blown away by the unique and ingenius songs, one after another without so much as a mediocre tune to be found. Consistently amazing stuff that I still listen to frequently, and probably always will. It's almost spiritual.

Was end of March and for some reason youtube told me to check out Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights. I've been blown away over this magnificent talent ever since. I'm a Black Metal and EDM person mostly and Kate is the best artist I've ever seen/heard in my life. I have at least 30 songs of hers that I listen to constantly. This may have been recorded in the rather odd way that the BBC did during the 1970s and 80s. The track would be recorded specially for the show in a studio, usually on the morning of the TV recording or live to air performance. Then the whole band would go to the TV Studio and mime to the track that they had recorded earlier in the day. Top of the Pops was always recorded the same way, except for very rare live to air performances, including Kate Bushes debut performance of Wuthering Heights!

Well spotted but I think most producers on tv wanted this. I am a huge fan and she’s very glad now to have total control of her career. But yes I agree and I suspect the makers wanted both vocals and the theatrical elements which is difficult to guarantee hence the lip synch That’s not to denigrate her in anyway because she’s brilliant
