Just want to say U2 is AWESOME!!! This is a great version and the one they sing with Mary J. Blige is incredible as well!!! Also Happy St. Patrick’s day everyone😀😀😀🍀! I know I will be celebrating!!
@bodies2magenta2 жыл бұрын
This U2 song is the *original* version, will be the greatest until the end of the world. Mary Blige's rendition is basically her own hollow "showcase", not even worth a listen. Mary is essentially a "showboat", and utterly fails at recreating the intended atmosphere of this U2 classic; does not even come close to the emotionality of this proper *U2 track.*

I have to go see Mary J. Blige’s version

Pause at half time: U2 / Bono have some solid songwriting and the arrangement is great, it sounds very organic, as if every instrument does exactly what it should do, nothing unnecessary or over the top, just a great vibe and dense atmosphere, this is great art! Is it getting better? Or do you feel the same? Will it make it easier on you now? You got someone to blame You say, one love, one life When it's one need in the night One love, we get to share it Leaves you baby if you don't care for it Did I disappoint you? Or leave a bad taste in your mouth? You act like you never had love And you want me to go without Well it's too late tonight To drag the past out into the light We're one but we're not the same We get to carry each other, carry each other One! Have you come here for forgiveness? Have you come to raise the dead? Have you come here to play Jesus? To the lepers in your head Did I ask too much? More than a lot You gave me nothin' now it's all I got We're one but we're not the same Well we hurt each other then we do it again You say love is a temple, love a higher law Love is a temple, love the higher law You ask me to enter but then you make me crawl And I can't be holdin' on to what you got When all you got is hurt One love, one blood One life, you got to do what you should One life, with each other Sisters, brothers One life but we're not the same We get to carry each other, carry each other One One - Interesting lyrics...! "The band wrote this song in Berlin after toiling there for months trying to record Achtung Baby. The Berlin Wall had just fallen, so the band was hoping to find inspiration from the struggle and change that was coming to the region. Instead, they found themselves at odds with each other and unable to do much productive work. This song came suddenly - the bones of it written in about 30 minutes by most accounts, and it rejuvenated the band creatively. When they left Berlin, they had little to show for it except for this song, but they were able to complete the album back home in Ireland with this song as the centerpiece. Says The Edge: "It was a pivotal song in the recording of the album, the first breakthrough in what was an extremely difficult set of sessions." (From Q Magazine, September 2005.)"

I think it was on your last U2 reaction that I invited you to get into the great gospel related stuff U2 did with African and black American choirs, I don't know if you heard that yet, can't remember a feedback - anyway I want to renew my invitation, this is true soul music, your heart will love it! Have a great evening and enjoy! Btw. interesting interpretation / facts about "One": "Anyone thinking of using this at their wedding might want to reconsider. "'One' is not about oneness, it's about difference," Bono points out in the book U2 by U2. "It is not the old hippie idea of 'Let's all live together.' It is a much more punk rock concept. It's anti-romantic: 'We are one, but we're not the same. We get to carry each other.' It's a reminder that we have no choice. I'm still disappointed when people hear the chorus line as 'we've got to' rather than 'we get to carry each other.' Because it is resigned, really. It's not: 'Come on everybody, let's vault over the wall.' Like it or not, the only way out of here is if I give you a leg up the wall and you pull me after you. There's something very unromantic about that. The song is a bit twisted, which is why I could never figure out why people want it at their weddings. I have certainly met a hundred people who've had it at their weddings. I tell them, 'Are you mad? It's about splitting up!'" The Edge offers his take: "The lyric was the first in a new, more intimate style. It's two ideas, essentially. On one level it's a bitter, twisted, vitriolic conversation between two people who've been through some nasty, heavy stuff: 'We hurt each other, then we do it again.' But on another level there's the idea that 'we get to carry each other.' 'Get to' is the key. 'Got to' would be too obvious and platitudinous. 'Get to' suggests it is our privilege to carry one another. It puts everything in perspective and introduces the idea of grace. Still, I wouldn't have played it at any wedding of mine." www.songfacts.com/facts/u2/one U2 and Africa: Where The Streets Have No Name [With Soweto Gospel Choir] kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJ7ZkoJod8iHgbs

Bono has a very soulful voice which can you blow you away if it really hits you. The Edge is a master at creating atmosphere. Of Irish people it is said they are all poets, philosophers and drunks. I don’t know their drinking habits, but their lyrics tick of the first two :-) They have a rich catalogue stretching over 40 years and their live performances are at times better than the studio recordings. Given the current political situation you might like listening to ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’ either the live version at the Red Rocks ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/e36Xp5WifJt1jLM) or a very recent acoustic version released because of the 50th anniversary of the Irish Bloody Sunday ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/lamrf3efj7apbNk).
