@@WikiED code of the game explicitly shows that it triggers Damocles chance to fall only if you get hit. Unless the code has been spaghettied, Damocles won't ever fall.

@@nelots1462 They're right, the condition for Damocles to begin checking every 4th tick is taking heart damage that isn't self inflicted (Such as in the case of Blood Donation, Demon Beggars, Curse Rooms, etc.) Because Holy Mantle stops you from taking the damage, it won't ever fall in the case of The Lost unless you get an extra life, in which case as seen in the video, Damocles will eventually fall on the next life.

I feel a bit guilty being praised for patience :| I did not actually wait 16 hours. Cheat Engine made it 5 times faster, so it should be around 3 hours only. And I just left it there and went to sleep lol. I think it is safe to make a conclusion if the sword does not fall after 140 mins. If you find something incorrect, just let me know (maybe with proof as well so that I can verify it).

As a math guy I can say that 140 minutes is more than sufficient. If the game runs at 60fps, there’s a 99.999663% chance the sword would have fallen by then. For just a 99% chance you would only have to wait about 51 minutes.

Tooth and Nail saved my Damocles run with Samson to the Witness. My first item was "Metronome" which on the second use, gave me Damocles. And yes, it didnt go away. I took so many hits, and yet the sword didnt fall on me... for a VERY long time. Guess when it triggered?! On Corpse II. Also, it triggered on the 1 second invincibility of the tooth and nail. That spared me from losing the run, and i beat witness afterwards. I will NEVER forget that run. :3

Tooth and nail is surprisingly good for that, it gives you invulnerability 1/7 of the entire run so having a 1/7 chance of avoiding Damo isn't bad at all

I had a Damocles run where I actually had red key. I took it all the way to Delirium where I found R key, so I was min maxing against my better judgement but I opened a red library and inside was a book of shadows, which I grabbed and just instinctually used. It wasn't until one of the boss rooms not giving me 2 items did I realize that the book of shadows saved me from the damocles fall.

It's not just because of Damocles, but I am really glad that the game now differentiates between intentional and unintentional damage, because I don't think that used to be a thing - definitely not for Angel/Devil deal chance as far as Curse and Sacrificial rooms are concerned, and I am pretty sure even Blood Bank and Devil Beggar used to ruin chances back in WotL.

I think that you could react to the sword in time with some form of invincibility. If you wanted to try and survive the fall you could figure out on average the amount of time it should fall, and then wait and try and react once that amount of time has passed after taking damage. No clue how fast the start up of invulnerability items like unicorn horn/stump or book of shadows is, but if it's frame one it could be doable.

damocles is a single use activatable, once its active the sword will hang above your head. it wont spawn extra items if the sword is not above you

Well, there are invincibilities which are not as rare as Gnawed Leaf (Chariot, Walking on sunshine, Book of Shadows, Unicorn Horn/stump...). It will be free items for just waiting after being hit. It may be boring, but it’s a perfect strategy if it worked after falling xD
