Lots of Questions: 1.Where did this technique originate??? 2.Is there a get unready routine to get the gelatin out??? 3.Does this technique induce traction alopecia???
@ravensongwaterdancers5 жыл бұрын
All great questions! 1 - It is a newer technique using gelatin - not sure who or where it originated from but 30+ years ago they used to put vaseline (petroleum jelly) in the hair for the same effect! 2 - Everyone seems to have their own technique for getting the gelatin out. The one consensus is hot water soak first (as hot as you can stand) I usually let the water run over it for a few minutes, then I take a generous application on shampoo and smooth over the whole surface and then gently start to massage the scalp. Rinse well and repeat as necessary. 3 - If our athletes had to wear their hair like this often, it could cause traction alopecia. For practice though, our athletes wear swimcaps so their hair is not pulled so tight in the same spot all the time.

Is Gelatin good for your hair? Cause because it dry so hard like u say, isnt that going to damage there hair after a while?
@catzkeet48605 жыл бұрын
Gelatine is just protein, that is soluable in warm water
@undercovercat98655 жыл бұрын
The Gelatin itself probably doesn't damage the hair. As in it probably doesn't dry the hair out. But the process of putting in the bun and getting the gelatin out again is definitely damaging since it involves quite a bit of hair manipulation. Technically we damage our hair every time we touch it. That's why wearing you hair down or playing with the ends of your hair causes damage that can lead to split ends. The problems that I'm seeing is that straight hair doesn't like to get brushed when it's wet, pony tails put a lot of pressure on the hair where they are tied, I find bobby pins to be damaging (but maybe that's just me being obsessive), and the repeated hair washes necessary to get the gelatin out require your hair to be wet quite frequently which is not ideal since hair is most fragile when it's wet. It also sounds like you'll be brushing out chunks of gelatin which might cause tangles. And tangles cause damage to the hair. The more frequent hair brushing also counts as manipulating the hair. It causes damage as well. I'm not sure how long the hair will be wet for. I don't know if the gelatin keeps the hair form drying. But if it does, that would be a factor of damage as well. The inner part of the hair swells up and gets damaged when your hair is wet for extended periods of time. Like 7 hours or so. There was a study that said something along the lines of :"air drying your hair is more damaging than blow drying it" Because the hair is wet for a shorter time when you're blow drying. In actuality air drying seems to be just fine for most long haired people but extreme case like putting gelatin on your hair might be damaging. One plus point of the gelatin might be that it keeps the water of the pool away from the hair. Chlorinated water and salt water are both damaging to hair. They dry the hair out and chlorine can even change the color of blonde or colored hair. Doing this to your hair probably wont ruin it. Not when your not interested in having your hair grow very long. But I wouldn't expect is to do any favors for your hair. Hair can take a bit of abuse thought and still be fine. I myself go swimming one a week (with my hair in a braid that is soaked in tap water before swimming). I've been swimming for about 7 years now and my hair is slowly approaching knee length. If the chlorine is damaging my hair I'm certainly not noticing it. A good deep conditioner and generally being quite gentle on your hair can go a long way.

J Kelly no as the gelatine dries when we use it and it is very hard to get out of the hair with one wash using water. Also when you are doing the routines, you are only in the water for 2-3 minutes so it won’t dissolve or melt in that time.

How do you manage the shorter hair from bangles that does not reach the bun ?
@ravensongwaterdancers5 жыл бұрын
A few schools of thought - for the really fine hairs around the face, I generally just spray lightly with water and a bit of hairspray to hold them back and then use the gel to secure it. For full bangs - you can simply use bobby-pins to hold them back and gel over that or use, what we call, a 'torture band' lol - a plastic zig-zagged band that wraps all the way around the head with pointed "teeth" on the one side (that goes towards the back of the head) and then gel over that.

Wow, who would have ever thought that up? How does it not disolve in the pool? And how does a girl get it out of her hair? Omgosh, I feel the pain of these girls watching them try to stay calm while having their hair pulled into those tight tight pony tails. I have hair that is medium thickness, but is also four feet long same/ish length lol. I would not be happy trying to get all of my hair into a tight ponytail first then a tight bun second. lol. Great job btw, for you the Tutor, and your subjects, or models, they were awesome as well. Good luck in future competes!
