Well, I mean, he bought a computer that includes a monitor. So... Unless it was somewhere nearby... It's more like... £42 for the computer £400 for the shipping. XD But seriously, CRT monitors are freakishly expensive if you try and get anyone to ship you one... And I guess that's not AS bad in the UK, but in Australia having to pick something up yourself ranges from impossible to extremely difficult. I mean, I can hardly make a 3000 km trip to get something from Adelaide, now can I? It was bad enough when I still lived near there to make a 150 km trip into melbourne to pick up the Plasma TV I currently use for retro stuff... And often you won't even find an Australian seller for something. My Atari 800XL is British for instance. - The shipping cost was about 1/4 of the total cost, and this was a package that included 120 games on cassette, two joysticks, a printer adapter, power supply, 1050 disk drive, tape drive and the manuals for DOS 3.0 (but not the disk) and the computer itself... So, yeah, the killer on ebay, for me, more often than not, is shipping prices. (this is to say nothing of winning ebay listings for games from japan where the game cost $1-2 while the shipping cost $6-20)

Pure fun! There is something to be said about the time, attention and patience required to work with this stuff. Just because something is easier doesn’t mean that it will lead to the best results. If you’re forced to stew on and idea or project it gives time for your mental focus to wander which leads to more comprehensive creativity. The “oldskool” sounds can be fun too. Love your style mate, man after my own heart. I had a similar idea for a museum, probably not going to happen for me though but I was going to call it The Museum of Recent History. It's amazing to think how far technology has come in so little time, been making tunes since I was a tot and still have a working AtariST 520 (upgraded to 1040) with a sampler program for it (and many of the games as well). Also love my analogue synths but also use a pc nowadays. Interesting fact; the AtariST was well known as a solid clock source for analogue syncing due to the main board being lifted from a synth itself (hence why they all had MIDI in/out). The advantage was that their board had a dedicated clock chip, rather than using code as the clock source, which every other computer has used and is the reason why tunes lag and timing goes tits up when the RAM gets full.

On top of the music being very nice this served as a very useful PSA: 1. Computers from the 80:ies tended to be relatively difficult and time-consuming to work with (relative to the machines from the late 90:ies and onwards) 2. Computers from the early 80:ies tended to take a while to load software. And MSSIAH is a cartridge, which is probably the fastest way to load software into a C64 and it still takes a while to load. And you said that your SD card reader loads at the speed rate as a floppy, which back in the day still counted as a FAST way to load software. (a minute or less instead of like 10-15 minutes, which you would get if you were stuck loading software from tape, which was the cheapest option ;)) ... useful PSA to people born after 1995 and people born in the 80:ies that should know better but who might be wearing rose tinted glasses of nostalgia ;).
