SYNCO D30 vs RODE Video Mic PRO +

Rode has a wider dynamic range for sure. The Synco D30 sounds hollow and tinny. You could probably eq it in post to make it sound better but why should you have to?

RODE sounds better absolutely, but Performance of SYNCO for costs is great. And Difference of two is small. I would like SYNCO.

Thank you for such a nice review, I would like to know whether this nic can be used as on camera mic for Solo Documentary Filmmaking ? As XLR >> TRS 3.5mm cable is not included in it as in Synco D1. Also could you please suggest an excellent Shotgun mic for Solo Documentary Filmmaking please.

The Rode sounded smoother and better listening through my hifi system, but the D1 sounded best out of those three. My choice, however, would be the tried and trusted NTG2.

The Synco D30 sounds terrible and very rolled off in the HF. I'm not a fan of the rode either ( I have a deeper voice to begin with) but it sounds far better than the Synco. This is a real shame, because it was one of the mics I ws looking at for a small project I was thinking of. Nice review Jason, keep up the good work & fyi, I purchased the Osmo Action based off one of your vids. Stay safe !

Hi Jason! It probably also depends on what equipment you listen to these recordings. I listened on my budget headphones and in my opinion Rode gives incomparably better, more natural sound. Thanks for episode👍

Can confirm on expensive Beyerdynamic studio headphones. There's no comparison.

Great video, Jason. But like some of the others here I did not think the difference was subtle. The Synco doesn't come close in sound quality of the Rode. Which is a shame as I wanted a nice cheaper alternative. Right now for on camera mics, for me, it really comes down to the Rode or Deity. Had my fingers crossed for a bit of a cheaper alternative that was at least close in sound quality.

So, I am listening on iPhone 11 Pro without ear buds and honestly the D30 sounds absolutely awful and I’m not a Rode biased person. I do own the Rode Go Wireless and love it but I’m open minded. The Synco sounded like a speaker rolling around inside of a tin can 😆 When you have it closer to you in the studio it does sound a bit better but overall I’m 2 thumbs down....unfortunately😒

I didn't find the difference subtle at all. Pro +, hands down for a natural voice tone and less hollow room sound. Synco tends to sound more like an in-camera mic, which almost no one would consider except to hear the clapper. *Sorry.*
