A real tragedy, Ronnie Peterson was the Super Swede and a fantastic driver. James Hunt is devastated and it no doubt lead to his decision to retire from racing. On a totally different note i can't help noticing JH is wearing his Barry Sheene No7 Tee shirt..you had to love em all back then, so much mutual respect.

James Hunt. Genius, playboy, billionaire, philanthropist. And real life hero.

He wasn't a billionare, but a rich brilliant race driver at one of the best eras of F1. Women were all over him :)

Ronnie was the first person I really remember dying I was ten and already a racing nut. I think this really affected James and I think he partly blamed himself for what happened. And it definitely contributed to his retirement the following year.

I was born few years after this, but still remember vividly the imola 1994. I remember where I was watching the race at and quali. Felt a bit weird to go to first f1 race to see live at hungaroring when there was coulthard crashing in Senna's "ex-car" in front of us. And both my countrymen where out of the race since Mika had a race ban and Lehto was in such a bad shape after his test collision that he had been replaced with Jos Verstappen. JJ could have become huge if Flavio hadn't forced him to drive too soon..

@@gringostarr69that wasn’t Sennas ex car. His car was kept by Italian authorities till 2002, then some say frank williams and his kids destroyed cut it up and burnt it, other say it’s still around somewhere. But no that was absolutely not sennas car being used throughout the rest of 1994 it was kept for investigation purposes for many years

@@Tg18460 I know it wasn't Senna's car that's why I wrote it in quotes. And I know the history of that car too that he sadly died in. But back then teams built multiple chasis for a year and no one is sure if Senna tried that same chassis, engine etc at testing or so. I think you got my point and I know that the car was chopped up after Frank and Patrick got it back and burned at Franks backyard. Peter Windsor has some intresting theories about the crash it self.. The point was that it felt strange when Coulthard crashed his williams right in front of us where me and my dad were warching. To me Senna's death affected quite a lot cause he was my racing hero. Finns (exept rosberg) hadn't done yet big things in F1.

James clearly affected by what happened. For years he blamed patrese - quite unfairly. They never made up before James' death

No, Ronnie «only» had a broken leg. It was the hospital which messed it up really bad. He was in shock, and James did not speak to Ronnie during this rescue.
