Thank you Matt. This video is almost 7 years old and it is still one of my r/c heli happy places.

This is a really refreshing clip. Why; first the heli is so quiet. No annoying frequencies. Second you can hear you talk clearly over the Heli. Third great example of flying skills. Really good

I have recently changed my configuration. Set up you heli to govern at 2000 rpm in set RPM mode with a 12S pack. When you want to run 1000 +/- on the head, simply put in a 6S pack and fly without any configuration changes. Thanks, Matt

Lovely, and so much more relaxing with that head speed.
@Scottsr45012 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I will do that. Horizon hobby was the one that set up the heli and tx for me. They said you should run a V curve. A lot of KZbin videos show that to. But a straight line makes sense. So the motor is not going high and low when your doing 3D. I think this straight line will cure the problem I've been having when I go in to a loop. Thanks again for your time.

amazing skills. Smack down 3d with endless power is one thing, but using collective management for this smooth ULHS 3d maneuvers was just amazing. Mad skills. Not going to lie, I was nervous just watching!

The theory behind the v-curve is to try to govern the head speed by increasing power per given load. Unfortunately it doesn't work as perfectly as the theory sounds. Electric motors have instantaneous torque which when too much power is applied will cause the tail to kick over. It would be very difficult to match the power needed to compensate for load by using a throttle curve. Since these motors have so much torque, a flat line throttle curve will likely provide more solid tail performance.

you pull the collective stick down which decreases the pitch of the blades into the negatives instead of positives. These helicopters "go up and down" by spinning up the blades to a constant speed (1000 RPM in this video) and only varying the pitch of the blades. Look up Collective Pitch Helicopters on wikipedia/google

Just watched the video. I'm a sucker for this style of flight. My question is that by running these low headspeeds does this basically slow down the helicopters flight/ response speed. Sorry if it seems obvious on video but I always set my machines up as close to possibly using the manufacturer's recommendation & have no one to work with other than through the online forums

You should be running a flat line throttle curve in Idle 1 and Idle 2. Configure Idle 1 for your low head speed RPM with a flat line curve. Start by trying 50% "flat" Next configure your idle 2 for your higher RPM with between 60-80 "flat". A "V" throttle curve like you have now will constantly vary the head speed which you do not want.

May I suggest a lighter setup specifically for this purpose? As it requires far less power to run 1000rpm, you could easily use a smaller motor, ESC and battery. Your setup weighs about 1385g (~3lbs) Motor = 400g-500g ESC = 210g Battery = 700-750g THIS would get you down to 985g (~2.1lbs): HK-3536-510KV = 365g CC Ice-Lite 100 = 82.2g ThunderPower 3300mAh 6S = 537g I’d LOVE to see what you could do with nearly 1 full pound less weight! You could turn down the headspeed even more! :D

great video i have been messing with low head speeds myself, my advice is to check your rpm with an optical tac when your going to idle 1, I bet the head speed is between 1200-1300 rpm at this speed 6s 5000mah pack and 5 min flight the pack had 50% left great fun i would be very surprised if this is a 1000rpm flight though

When I flew RC in the 90's (concepts, shuttles), I preferred the much lower head speed, it makes for stable scale flying and I think the hobby lacks the precision and attention to scale helicopter flight. My career is flying the real ones and I like it when I see the RC flyers appreciate some scale type attributes. The hobby has made leaps and bounds, I used to mount the helicopter on a pole, OGE, and do my throttle/pitch curves that way. Talk about a payoff to have proper curves set up.
