The process for Apple Silicon is a little funky, but I followed your video and have my Mini backing up to my 1522+ Thanks for the video. This also solved another issue I was facing since not all software devs have updated their instructions for M-Series Maca.

I followed your instructions and got something different, so it did not work. I had to give the Active Backup for Business Agent access to my APFS volume / FileVault. I have never used FileVault and do not have it turned on. Whatever, I entered the password I use to unlock my Mac and got the incorrect password popup. Can you please help?

Thanks for the video. You forgot to mention that I'm asked at the beginning of the installing process to install Rosetta. This means: ABB is not a native app. Some kind of disappointing as we have the M4 (4th gen.) chip by now.

Hi Nick thanks for watching. Each program has its use case. That said, ABB backs up the entire computer, not just folders you specify in a Hyper Backup task for example. Have a great day.

Hi Jay, thanks for watching. To answer your question, not yet in my opinion. Time Machine is better integrated seeing as it’s native to Mac and offers a full machine restore. As of now, ABB only allows for restore at the file and folder levels. Synology will be releasing a bare metal restore sometime this spring. Once that is available to Mac users, I may feel differently.

Hello, I’m sorry you are experiencing this issue. Best thing to do is contact Synology support directly. www.synology.com/en-us/company/contact_us. I’m not leaving you out to dry, it’s just more of a support issue that should be reported. There are too many variables beyond what I showed in the video. Have a good day.

Tony - You failed to mention what the downside of installing kernel extensions on your Mac and how this will become deprecated in future macOS due to security issues. As a Mac Sys Admin for many businesses and home users, I have beta tested this ABB and it is not ready for prime time. There is no reason to use the service over other options.

@@QuikTechSolutions Apple has changed macOS over the last few years, beginning when they split the drive into Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD - Data, storing the user data on Macintosh HD - Data. Today, the OS is cryptographically signed, and the user can’t modify it (macOS checks to make sure the OS hasn’t been modified by anyone but Apple), only Apple can, and that’s where the problem lies. Without Apple’s cryptographic keys, Synology Active Backup won’t be able to write the OS or Apple applications, so a bare metal restore won’t be possible…not only for Synology, but for anyone but Apple. There are some applications such as Carbon Copy Cloner which allow you to restore the user data from a backup, but you have to have the OS installed first, it’s not bare metal.
