Ed's 'plan for tomorrow' is the most brilliant bit of foreshadowing ever. He lays out the entire rest of the movie in such a way that you may never pick it up on first watch - from 'bloody Mary' (Now listen here... Mary!) to 'back at the Winchester for shots' (Call them shells...). Hot Fuzz and World's End each do it a little different, but Edgar Wright always has fun with foreshadowing.

Fun part I found when I got the DVD of this movie. There are little drawing boards as to what happened to Diane after she opened the front door into the hoard of zombies and how Ed got to the shed in the end Apparently Diane survived after beating back the zombies with David’s leg before holing up in a tree out of reach just before the army came by to clear out the streets. Stayed there for few days in case the zombie thing was still an issue surviving off the meat of the leg. Before deeming it safe Ed got couple of shots off the zombies when they broke through the cellar and used them as camouflage when the rest of the zombies came in and the army shot them down as well. Ed tried to call out but passed out and died before becoming a zombie . Shawn found him and lured him back to his place afterwards

I've used Shaun in my basic screenwriting class. David is a really well-written antagonist. You'll notice that he changes his strategies. He tries to sandbag Shaun until it's apparent that Liz is going along with him. Then he complains and undermines Shaun's leadership until Liz rebukes him. Then he tries to take over as more proactive. David 6 really develop as a character, exactly, but the nature of his antagonism changes subtly in a way that escalates the conflict but is also a logical trajectory for his character.

Fun Fact: This Movie actually has a lot of Easter Eggs referring to the Classic Zombie Movies made by Gerorge A. Romero. Like for Example, the Character Barbara, Shaun's Mom, is actually a whole Easter Egg referring to Barbara from "George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead" and the whole Plot revolving around Shaun's Group going to the Winchester trying to survive there is basically just a very dumped down Re-Iteration of the Plot of "George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead". Also, remember the little Boy at Shaun's House, that shot the Ball at Shaun even as a Zombie? Yeah, that's actually referring to a Plot Point in "Day of the Dead", were the Aspect of Zombies' Intelligence & Memories are explored a little more. In general, many Zombies in "Shaun of the Dead" were setup with that Reference in Mind. I could go on with This for Hours. But I think, You'll get the Point. "Shaun of the Dead" is definitely a Masterpiece in many Ways. Cinematography, Story, Comedy/Satire, References, Easter Eggs...it just delivers on Everything and so much more. I would even go as far to say, that it probably is the best Zombie Movie in general, but I also think, that could be kinda debatable here. ;-D

It really is! I'll never forget watching Shaun of the Dead for the first time, at 4:00 a.m., and I had just finished getting it from LimeWire 😂 I couldn't believe how fantastic it was, it just blew my mind! Edit to add: I had just finished watching Napoleon Dynamite for the first time too and let me just say, I was also hanging out with my friend Mary Jane by myself for the first time 😂

I've seen this movie too many times to count and I can't believe I'm just catching Dianne opened the doors of The Winchester at the end because when it comes to David, she's more than willing to "pick up the pieces". I also love that the entire "timesplitters couch scene" with Shaun and Ed is a direct foreshadow of the final bar shootout ("Reload", "On it").

The shop that Shaun works in is called Foree Electric, named after Ken Foree from Dawn of the Dead 1978.

In the DVD there's a few extras that explain some things that happened offscreen. When Shaun led the zombies away from the pub, the dead were really all too slow to catch him at a shamble in the open street. So he stopped every so often to keep them following him, since they follow things only in direct line of sight. Then when he was ready to go back he ran into an alley and hopped into a dumpster until they all passed, then jumped back out and ran back. But one at the back spotted him and the rest of the horde followed that one in a straight line back to the pub. Diane actually survived running into the horde. She beat them all off with David's leg and then climbed a tree when she snapped out of it. She passed out when the army rolled through, stayed up there for a week eating the leg when she saw no people or zombies, and eventually climbed down and went home to her mom's. Ed wasn't torn apart like David because when the zombies busted in, he shot a couple with his final shells and they fell on top of him, hiding him from view when he passed out and turned alone with nothing motivating him to move. Until Shaun, after the hest died down, returned and found Ed still there in the basement. Whom he then led back home and into the shed using himself as bait with the same method above.

Literally watchied this over the weekend and it took me 20 years to realize that Pete showed up at the Winchester because Shaun told him exacrly where they would be during the shower scene xD. The layers on this movie. My favorite extra touch is on the DVD extras They show Diane survived by climbing up a tree xD

I about peed myself laughing when I saw this in the movies and Sean pulled that damn shade down when he realized the zombies were at the back door and followed him.

you got to do the cornetto trilogy- so many awesome british comedians and actors! then of course 'Paul' an honorary grouping to the other three and more USA style :) i think the other alternate group was a comment on how every friend group in the uk has a set of these characters in one form or another in it, and you got to remember the british pub is an institution - basically a second lounge and everyone has a 'local' lol

You have to watch The World's End now! Some people don't like it as much as the other two but I think it's pretty damn good (and I personally prefer it to Shaun of the Dead).
