I said "unexpected" because when you look at most of them now, they're so lively you don't really feel sad about them, even knowing their past. Guess because they all life their life to the fullest they can.

+korohacker In fact, it's Hou yi who killed the sun and it killed her son when it crashed down on earth. Hou yi did it on Chang'e demand. Hecatia wants to kill chang'e too because the shadows of hell are weaker with a sun down (Attacking Apollo much). Hecatia is carefree and doesn't care that much (She even fights you one body at a time when she can all 3 at the same time...) Hope it clarifies it a bit.

In the official touhou print works Some human king,(formerly one of kaguya's admirers) tried to destroy it, then found out its not easy without creating a mass destruction ending thousands of lives (including native gods), but before they could find another way, mokou stole it.

Drinking the Hourai elixir was considered a crime on the moon the reason why Kaguya was sent to earth to make her pay for it, but in Mokou's story it explains that a group of people went to the Fuji Volcano to try and destroy it at that time Mokou stole it.
