Cost per gallon is based on brs prices so extremely skewed. Instant ocean is half the price of brs at many other vendors.

I’m new to the hobby and I appreciate videos like this. I was thinking about going with Red Sea but my local store Carries instant ocean reef crystals at a great price so maybe that’s what I’ll go with. Will that work for a new tank?

What makes sense is stop jacking the prices up on the salt making it impossible for new refers to get into the hobby.

The reason heating works is a principal called supersaturation in chemistry. However, there's a point where that falls off and you'll see precipitation at that point. The temperature of the water at the surface of your heater is hotter than your average water temperature, which is why you see that build up on your heater.

So instant ocean is a bad option? i am looking into getting my first salt mix just dont know what to look for. ive heard bad things about instant ocean and people saying tropic marine salt had been leaving brown slime unless they fixed that problem

14:35 I think thats dependent on dew point n relative humidity. you could try testing a sealed mixing container.

Lol, the orange sludge is iron that is left over from the cheap iron based anticaking agents (also the reason there can't be any stratification) and has nothing to do with precipitation and is a clear sign of the brand cutting corners on their product.

Thanks for all the fantastic content guys. Much appreciated for the anal retentive noob like myself 🤝 I use TMP too. But given the lower than average dKH doesn’t it pretty much guarantee you’ll need to dose alkalinity? Also I’ve gone through 2 buckets of it so far and am already noticing a slight amount of “brown sludge” building up in my Brute can. Ryan seemed to be saying he doesn’t get that buildup with TMP. I have a pump/heater in my bin that stay on around the clock because I have an AWC pulling from that bin, so it’s not that it’s not mixed or heated. Is it normal to see a little bit with TMP after just 2 buckets? Thanks again guys!
@thomasdirocco
@thomasdirocco Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't keep heat on in your mixed seawater tank, you're just wasting energy. Your AWC is moving so slow that it won't affect your display temp much.
@cjdangles
@cjdangles Жыл бұрын
@@thomasdirocco I also do large water changes with it in my QT tank though. It's not enough of an added expense for me to worry about it, and it's nice to have water "ready to go" in case I need to do a large unplanned water change.
