Bitimbral experimentation hint: I send MIDI out from my DM12 to the MIDI in of my JD-800. This way analogue gets married with digital. Forging a purely digital padscape on the JD and a warm sounding patch on the DM, then mixing them just by their respective volumes, creates a never-heard-before, rich sounding result, that I would never be able to have by having just one of these 2 synths. Ever since I discovered this, the DM12 became a studio standard for me..

A really nice digital workstation type of synth might have to be on the list for the next major purchase..

I'm looking forward to trying out that additive synthesis trick I've heard about on other channels.

Both the Pro-800 and the Deepmind are fantastic synths. The Pro-800 actually has a fair bit of modulation options, but they are under the PERF button menu, which takes getting used to. The keybed on the Deepmind is way, way better than I expected it to be. It also sounds great!

I absolutely hate the menu diving on the pro 800.. but otherwise, yeah... it's actually pretty versatile. (in addition to sounding absolutely gorgeous) I agree.. the DeepMind keyboard feels great. I neglected to demonstrate the after-touch in this video. It just sort of slipped my... mind.. I plan on remedying that in future videos I may do on the DeepMind12. I've got at least two topics I can think of right now: Additive Synthesis, and maybe something like a 5 Custom Presets type of video.

Very cool. I've thinking about getting one of these. Both this and the Hydrasynth have caught my eye.

It's a great synth, i have the Deepmind 6 since it came out, but it does not come close to the sound of the Juno 60/106. It's a very versatile and good synth, but sounds a bit thin compared to the Juno's.

Yeah, I wish I could justify a purchase of the real thing. I'm sure it's a gorgeous synth to play. But I'm a working man's synth player! I do get pretty jealous of people who have these nice collections.

Jakob Domine does a pretty interesting rundown of the additive synthesis thing.

I gotta admit I didnt get on well with this one. Had it for 9 months and it broke down (Screen died). Ended up with a Hydrasynth and am *so* much happier than I was with this.

huh, no kidding.. I haven't had any issues with mine, I've only had it for a few months though. Did you ever figure out what happened with the screen? I do want to try out that Hydrasynth. That's at the top of my list of mid priced synths to try out on this channel.

Efx's in the keyboard are far better than outside, unless you like trying to remember hundreds of effects setups for all the different patches you create.

They are definitely very useful. Particularly for "baked in" types of effects for patches. Where the effect is as a part of the sound as the rest of it.. But I still like having my little synth pedal board. Particularly for things like overdrive and delay. Nothing quite beats an actual analog circuit when you want to add some grit for instance (particularly on bass). Nothing quite beats my Memory Man as far as some nice Overdrive. I use it almost as much as an OD as I do as a delay.

There's an interesting mod you can do with the DeepMind 12 where you can fairly easily add an input so you can run other things through it. Maybe I'll check that out. I would probably use the FX a lot more if I could run all my other synths through it.

Tbh not the biggest fan of the oscillators on it. They feel kinda thin to me. That being said, it’s very cool from a features perspective and I think you’ve got it sounding the best I’ve heard out of anyone so far

Thanks man! Yeah.. that's just the character of the Juno-60.. not quite as rich and bassy sounding as say the Prophet 5 (or the pro-800 in my case)... when I play my pro 800, I don't know man, it just feels good. Tonally. The bass boost on the DM12 is helpful a lot of the time though. I just look at it as another tool. Sometimes I'm GOING for that more Juno sound. In the context of a mix, sometimes thinner might be just what you need. But yeah, I agree. The oscillator's tone is not quite as satisfying in general as some other synths.

That’s true yea, I guess the Juno really is nothing special without that chorus :/ (Just my opinion. I do like their envelopes a lot and the filter is pretty good, also think the oscillators sound a little better than the DeepMind but I’m not sure I’ve ever heard or played a Juno without that chorus so could be wrong) I’d imagine the DeepMind would sound a little better with the filter permanently down a little bit and/or running through a guitar amp I have a Pro-800 on order which I’m really excited about. Happy to hear you like it

You know, I've seen some comparisons on KZbin and they sound pretty close to me but I've never actually compared them in real life. And I do think that makes the difference. So I guess I couldn't really say how close they got it.. just that it's close enough for me to not have to spend thousands on the real thing. And that is much appreciated. The lack of chorus is partly why I got myself that TC Electronic June-60 pedal, which admittedly isn't exact 100% like the Juno chorus.. but it's in the same ballpark and a nice supplement to the lack of it in the DeepMind. It's a nice sounding analog chorus either way. Oh man.. I think you're gonna like the Pro 800. It's my favorite poly synth to play. It's just really satisfying. To me anyway. Make sure to check if you have the latest firmware though. They had to patch some issues with the envelopes or so I'm told. But you probably already knew that.

That kind of mod matrix the laziest UX choice and I hate it. There are so, so many ways to make it better.

Maybe I'm a basic bish but I just want it given to me straight and functional. Just give me a quick way to scroll through stuff so I can just get the hell outta there.. I cannot stand a lot of menu diving, especially when it's hard on the eyes.. like menus that look like a digital watch. (I'm looking at you Pro-800)
