My pineaples grow fine in shade but dont produce well there. Ive learned to just put them on both sides of any long paths I travel daily, like where I cary drinking eater from the spring, and sniff out the ripe ones before critters find them, which smell potently when hit by the sun. i miss many, but tend to pull 3 or 4 every day or two, whenever Im on my way to do something else. papaya and soursops are similar. You really have to check them daily. So using zone one paths helps to not miss ripe fruits.

The ones doing well for us “in the shade” is a very light shade and we have gotten very nice fruit. The sun is very powerful here though. Love the idea of the “zone 1” walking paths, where you can easily see things that are ripe. We have lined our driveway and paths with things like tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, papaya, pineapple, etc. works great 👍

Very cool you guys! So glad you are able to find time to make content. One thing I have found is I do not have enough mulch crops. Does Gliricidia propogate from just sticking cuttings in the ground? And do you have any that you can sell or donate?

Crotalaria is propagated by seed easily. I do have some and can usually get them anytime of year. Email us and we can get you some

Great video, wish you guys would make at least once a month there is so much to cover. Making soil and mulch without buying anything is what I personally need to know about so this experiment is great. More details on how you set up the worm casting and anything else you use would be greatly appreciated. Details details details!!! Thanks so much 🤙

Has greening made it to Hawii yet? Here in Florida they don't even recommend planting citrus at the backyard scale. The only species that is supposed to be "tolerant" (not resistant) to greening is the sugar belle, but it seems like people are having mixed results with that

@@OffGridHawaii not sure, some are more bacterial or fungal amendments and some more nitrogen. Interesting to know what YOUR plants need.

Try trimming your weak trees a bit too. This way you get a better root to crown ratio. greetings from Germany🌱

How did you plant the croalaria, just spreading seeds on bare soil? Did you cover after planting? Did you buy the seeds?
@OffGridHawaii
@OffGridHawaii 7 ай бұрын
We had seeds saved from other crotolaria we have growing on the property and just spread them directly onto the ground and covered them with soil. 🤙🏾

I was told tree tomato wants full sun and lots of fertilizer.
@OffGridHawaii
@OffGridHawaii 7 ай бұрын
Sounds about right. Also the crotalaria was planted about 4-5 ft apart from each other with about 20 seeds in each hole.

You can check on aloha living dot com to see what sellers are asking. Keep in mind though it can be costly to improve raw land here.
