I feel so sorry that for two years in the past I was working right across his house in Athens. I saw him a couple of times in the street but I never approached him to say hi. I regret that so much. I loved his music, I liked the man through his interviews. But I never found the courage to approach him. I was afraid that I will bother him. RIP

I love how Vangelis describes what I have realized only quite lately after making music for decades: The more effective you get in creating music, the actually harder it gets to work on it. It demands so much emotionally from you when you have reached a certain point, that it becomes a pretty exhausting matter. Can even fuck you up sometimes. Long live Vangelis!

How very nice to see and hear Vangelis himself speak of the mental processes behind his masterpieces. I have often wondered but never seen nor heard from this genius as I listen to his compositions, what thoughts go through his brain to compose what he does. A true modern day classical artist, not to be taken lightly. Thank You for posting this!

Art requires time to understand and master - a minimum of 10000 hours. Though I believe talented people require less.
@patrickwoods22132 ай бұрын
No, that’s wrong. It’s the other way around. I can guarantee you some of the most talented artists have put in more hours than their peers. More than 10,000. WAY more. No one gets there without the sweat and the work. Which is exactly what Vangelis is trying to say here.
@mkdoddart2 ай бұрын
@patrickwoods2213 I can't subscribe to that. You either have it or you haven't -no matter how many hours you put in. Talented artists instinctively 'know' how to create.
@patrickwoods22132 ай бұрын
@@mkdoddart That's a black and white fallacy. Many "talented" musicians started out struggling. Some of my favorite guitarists were practicing up to ten to fifteen hours a day when they were young.....I don't know one virtuoso that hasn't done that. If there is one virtuosic musician who got to be great by putting in minimal effort, I would love to know about them. I think what you're trying to say is that you either have the passion for something or you don't - and that, I do believe whole heartedly. If a person first hears music when they're young, it's going to light the fire to make them want to do it, or it's not. But once they discover the passion, they have to put in the work. And much more work than most people to be great. It's the same with athletes. Same with all the great writers, actors, poets, what have you. I would love to know someone who only put in 5 hours a week practice and became a virtuoso.
@mkdoddart2 ай бұрын
@patrickwoods2213 so by that definition if we are going by practicing hours then a child prodigy like Mozart would not exist. Since generally, prodigies in all domains are suggested to have relatively elevated IQ, extraordinary memory, and exceptional attention to detail.
@patrickwoods22132 ай бұрын
@@mkdoddart I still don’t get what you’re trying to say when it comes to practicing and having talent- are you saying prodigies don’t need any practice? Or just less than an average music student?
