Sorry to say but the brother seems to have got his history wrong. Lebanon was mentioned in the Bible long before the French arrived on the scene. Even there is a difference in racial profile between what we call syrians who were basically from semi arab tribes and the Lebanese who are Semitic. The Christianity practiced by both these groups were different as well.
