Syria's transition: Former security forces register for reintegration

The Syrian interior ministry says the door is still open for any Assad regime officers or police who want to settle their status, to be reintegrated or avoid legal action.
Thousands have already turned up at special registration centers across the country.
Al Jazeera’s Mohamed Vall has the story from the city of Homs.

Soldiers are not politicians. They are ordinary people who can work for any institution. Put them to a good use and take care of their livelihood. It is the system what makes the difference. If you set up good institutions and clean up the corruption, these soldiers are just a man power for the economy.

New regime should not revenge. Only those who gave orders at the top be apprehended while the rest are integrated. Elderly officers be retired & given benefits

Iraq and Libya made the mistake on not vetting every soldier of the former regimes and rebel groups. That backfired horribly. Syria is not taking any chances; not if they want to rebuild

You can't do anything in this situation. The war is over so now they have to come together and the folks that are snakes will most likely get caught due to folks that are trying to complete reintegration. This is the worst part of a civil war and it is painful, hope they have a swift recovery so they can build their nation.

Yes, don't worry. The criminals are well known by the people in their areas, so they are likely going to run away or get caught quickly. Most of these people are the ones who were in the army because they had to be. And the reason they are documenting them is so if they commit crimes in the future their past will be known and they will be treated accordingly

Honestly yeah, Syria should avoid the mistake that was made with Iraq; when they basically dissolved the entirety of the army, as the saying goes, idle hands are a devil's workshop; they simply just had to turn to crime or join extremist groups to get paid
