I have been using the three axis setup for a few weeks, mainly for time lapses. It’s excellent for that purpose. BUT, if you plan on using it for video, be aware the motors are VERY noisy. This renders any on-camera mic useless. Syrp does not mention this at all in their advertising. External mics are an absolute requirement. This has doubled my video editing time since I now have to edit each and every video clip to add sound that I shoot with a Genie. The second generation models are supposedly quieter but I haven’t tried them. Too expensive anyway.

3:46 Can I use any brand of cable intended for my Lumix camera? Say JJC?
@Sanjiocom Жыл бұрын
Which cable do you use with your lumix? When I try a long exposure panorama it starts recording a video instead of a bulb still .

Seeing how this can be controlled remotely, would this be a good option to take photos and create a 360 real estate virtual tours?

It seems to be a little loud for video?!
@geraldbertram77186 жыл бұрын
Jeven, don't think I'm on board with this one. Watching this video the motors seem very loud. Price is near $600 to move on multiple axis. I see in the comments you said this isn't the same as a gimbal and you don't just use these for timelapses. In what situation would it be better to purchase this system that a similarly or cheaper priced gimbal couldn't do for you keeping in mind the other things a gimbal can do for you that this system cannot (clean audio, mobile stabilization)? Great review as always, just don't see the advantage to this system over other options.

For anyone just watching this video now and considering getting a genie, as a new genie user myself I can say that it is worth it depending on the scenario. The genie lineup isn't competing with gimbals and gimbals aren't competing with the genie. The original genie mini can take two whole days worth of time-lapse in one charge or can be set to move in keyframes for video for 5 hours. A mobile gimbal might cost you $150 and allow for the same camera movements but you won't find a gimbal that supports full cameras with the same software features, battery life, or portability, especially not anywhere near the price point of the genie. Plus gimbals won't offer the same level of repeatable motion or modularity.

shit its loud when it rotates though, or is that because your microphone was pointed directly at it?

Very cool :D the bracket is so simple but effective.

Hey Javen, I have all this equipment, but it’s been a while since I used it. If I’m gonna do a Milky Way Timelapse, can I set it to shoot the camera like 10 second intervals?

Do I set that in the app?

I would be nice to see and hear a video with those motors running as they seem to be very noisy. Not useful for interviews that's for sure, but yes for product commercials with overlapsed music or voice, and time lapses, very valid. Any product has its pros and cons.

Hey Jeven, do you reckon this can be used for mobile timelapse photography, assuming there is a second phone/tablet to control the device. Do you think the interval/play time settings would work nice and smooth? The drama is because you must have a cable connecting the device and you camera on this kind of shot, right? And using a phone, this connection wouldn't exist. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Would this Genie Mini work if I used my iPhone XS with the Genie app running, while simultaneously videoing, using Filmic Pro? So, essentially 2 apps running at the same time?

Damn that is loud but it guess it doesn’t matter if you just use for time lapse or b-roll for product

You did not touch on motor sound, if it usable when doing video with mics around. You also did not touch on the app weather app can be used simultaneously with app running on the background while you use your phone to record. Overall it’s difficult to make a decision on this product because key elements to make decision on is missing. Great presentation though. Thanks.
