Here's what I learned: - start from the user's perspective. describe things layer by layer until you get to storage - always draw something - give names to boxes and things you draw and use them to communicate You mentioned designing Instagram. I would love to see a video where you dive deeper in to that

I'd disagree with the idea of starting from the client's perspective and then working your way to the data storage. Start with the data storage layer to make sure it can support the features the system must support. I've often found myself designing some microservices in an interview only to find I have no idea how to link them with the correct tables/etc.
