My cousin went to that show, he said that everyone was laughing at them. I really admire these guys, before they went on stage - they knew that people where going to laugh at them and their music. Yet they still went on and played the best they could, not afraid to dance around all crazy (especially Daron) - they didn't give a fuck what people thought of them. And they really played the shit out of that song, top notch performance. Even if the people in the studio thought it was garbage.

Same! Being raised in a far right-wing conservative household, any variation from the norm was treated as a threat. Upon seeing bands like RATM and SOAD among others for the first time, their unique energies and powerful messages were actually pretty intimidating. And as far as dynamics go, I think SOAD are masters of utilizing that aspect in their music.
