@@Solarsunsets no It's because he shredded his vocal chords and had to get surgery, which *I guess* can be viewed synonymously with getting older.

2:39 This is the type of yell you rarely attempt to keep from blowing your voice out. Serj is unbelievably talented.

I'm learning this song right now actually, It IS hard - but not as hard as it sounds. Once you've got the vocal fry technique down, it's just about maintaining it. The difficulty lies in threading that narrow line between not enough force to make the vocal fry effect, but not too much that you strip your throat while also changing pitch as required, but as long as you nail that it's actually surprisingly easy on the voice. The real challenge for me in this song so far has been how QUICKLY he switches between vocal fry and regular voice at times, it can be hard to transition your voice that quickly.

Didn’t he actually hurt his voice though? Most of the songs from Soad have these harsh sounding yells.

@@radioactiverat8751 There’s a certain technique metal vocalists use where it doesn’t necessarily strain their voice. I’m assuming they prob use the same thing?

@@AnthonyA1995Dude, look up “complete vocal institute”, they call the distortion Serj is doing a “rattle” and it has very little to do with fry screaming. The voice is incredibly complex, and “rattle” is still one of the most difficult vocal techniques there is.

CAUTION! For anyone trying to replicate Serj’s vocal distortion, look up “complete vocal institute“. They call the type of distortion Serj is doing, “rattle”, but rattle may mean many other techniques in other places.

Conversion, software version 7.0 Looking at life through the eyes of a tire hub Eating seeds as a pastime activity The toxicity of our city, of our city You, what do you own the world? How do you own disorder, disorder? Now, somewhere between the sacred silence Sacred silence and sleep Somewhere Between the sacred silence and sleep Disorder, disorder, disorder More wood for their fires, loud neighbors Flashlight reveries caught in the headlights of a truck Eating seeds as a pastime activity The toxicity of our city, of our city You, what do you own the world?
