As you will see, this video is going to be a little different from the rest of my fire alarm videos. This is my first "retrofit plate" demo, so I had no idea where to go with this, but did the best I could to produce something still alike my other works.
This unit is simply a SS24ADA series strobe (the STROBE unit itself) attached to a large plate with a 4x4 hole in it. This is designed to fit a MA sounder in the hole of this unit. Essentially, this becomes a MASS with a bigger footprint, designed to cover up an entire back box that a much bigger alarm would take.
We may recall bigger "flush mount alarms" such as a 7001 series unit, a 2903 or 4050 with some device attached to it, or even a Space Age Electronics AV series plate. For a 7001 or AV series, I believe that would mount in a big box with 4x4 mountings inside it, specifically designed for the alarm. Doing some quick research, I believe the model for the box the 7001 series would use is the FSB. For replacing a 2903, this could fit on the existing box, as long as there's an additional retrofit plate that has the 4x4 mountings on it. The existing box (2975-9145) only has screw holes on the top and bottom of the box itself (when used vertically), so an additional plate would be used to give 4x4 mounting capabilities to the box (not sure the model # or that). I tried my best to explain here about this, you may have to Google some stuff to find out more, there may be something I may not even know about!
I try my best to show the capabilities of this unit showing a MASS unit and a horn on the plate. According to the retrofit plate unit's instructions (yes, I actually did make an effort to read them), it seems like the only intention is to have an MA sounder on there or a speaker (V400 series), however, this proves that anything else is possible with this unit, as long as the horn does not protrude the strobe from a certain depth. I haven't seen any use of this particular unit yet, so I don't know everything. If anyone has seen any setup like this, let me know!
DISCLAIMER:
1: It is a FELONY to pull a fire alarm in public, unless there is actually a fire or other emergency. However, this is being activated in a controlled and legal environment. No fire departments were called when activating the alarm.
2: This video contains flashing lights from a strobe. Those prone to seizures from flashing lights SHOULD NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO.
3: Any retrofit designs you see here are simply EXPERIMENTAL in my own controlled environment. In NO WAY am I tampering with any actual life safety systems in use. Furthermore, this is just my personal experiment. I am not a fire alarm system designer, just simply an enthusiast with a wild "imagination."
I AM NOT responsible for any legal damages done for pulling a false alarm, unauthorized tampering with any life safety systems, or for any seizures. These are your decisions, not mine.
