That's the dumbest thing I have heard. The reason Zoro doesn't want a devil fruit is because of the weakness devil fruit users have, i.e not being able to swim. Even if his blades eat a fruit the blade won't be of much use in an underwater fight which may be rare but it does happen on one-piece.

Zoro closing his eyes and having insane haki would make alot of sense. When mihawk was first introduced into the story he was awake but he had his eyes closed before he Ricochet the Bullets. Even Zeff goes onto you probably woke him up from a nap. The same thing happened at Marine ford when luffy tried avoiding mihawk but even being across the entire battlefield from him he was strong enough and he was “Still in range”. It makes you wonder even as a swordsman how far can he attack?

This might be a shot in the dark. But zoro has had 2 near death experiences. The first time “nothing happened.” The second time we can see he has an interaction with the grim reaper. Assuming it’s enma “the king of hell,” then this has HUGE Buddhism references along with egghead. Enma is known as the king of hell, rescinding in the realm of Jigoku, one of six realms of Buddha. Enma’s chief duty is to judge the souls of the newly dead and send them on to their next location. Enma may seem fearsome and terrifying, at heart, he is a kind and compassionate god, and he truly wishes to save each soul from damnation. This may be why the souls of the dead are given so many tests and trials to avoid going to hell. Zoro recently remarked that enma is testing him and claimed to be the king of hell. Zoros conquers will is oddly different then what we’ve seen so far, he has ashura. In some Buddhist traditions, the realm of ashura is considered to be the lowest level of heaven, and gets included among the “happy” rebirths. However, because ashura are so controlled by their emotions, it is almost impossible for them to achieve enlightenment, become buddhas, and escape the cycle of endless reincarnation. Souls who are reborn here are usually humans who lived good lives up to a point, but committed some wicked deed which prevents them from being reborn in the realm of heaven, sounds like Zoro! What if enma is trying to guide zoro to understanding ashura. Again enma seems fearsome but wants help, and zoro so far has passed Enmas trial when fighting king. When appearing it could easily just mention ashura leaving zoro curious. Zoro out of everyone want to ask vegapunk a question? Just showing ashura we could get a lot of info. But what next? Well I think the way to forge a black blade is you have to die while having a certain strength level and mastery/trust over the will of your blade. Mihawk has Dracula like ties and theres lore with Catholicism and resurrection. Once you die you become apart of your sword, merging souls/wills. That’s why mihawk moves as if his sword is apart of him, casual swings being devastating. But the issue with zoro is he’s “died” twice. His ashura like will seems to revolve around 3. So what if in zoros case because of whatever ashura is he has to die literally 3 times😂 to turn his blades black and in a sense master ashura “reincarnating.” And I theorize that Bonny could use her near death experiment attack on zoro. When she hit the marine he said he saw the “ sanzu river,” definition is three crossings. It’s also in Buddhist mythology and says Before reaching the afterlife, the souls of the deceased must cross the river by one of three crossing points: a bridge, a ford, or a stretch of deep, snake-infested waters. Whether you need to really die or be near death idk, but with whatever information vegapunk could give us after zoro shows him ashura and ask it could work. He might have to cross the worst bridge and be the final trial for it. Either way that could be what either gets him 3 black blades since he’s fully tamed all 3, or either in addition or by itself master ashura. Meaning he could potentially use it for like a gear 4 level time limit. And just for supporting evidence for the sanzu river Bonny thing, if they see the sanzu river it also mentions this. Similarly to the Sanzu-no-Kawa, there is also the Sai no Kawara. ("Riverbed of Death"), a boundary by which the souls of children who died too early cross over to the realm of the Dead, with the help of Jizō, a Kami/Bodhisattva who helps the souls of children who died too early to avoid the attentions of the Oni and of Shozuka-no-Baba and Datsueba. During his trial crossing bridge he may see kuina, and has to make peace with certain things or do something. That near death experience could be when he interacts with wado ichimonji in the form of kuina. Wado also has Buddhist lore with the realm Tendo.

Not a criticism of any of these theories, but I've noticed people tend to forget the interaction on Fishman Island during the final battle where the opponent tried to make Zoro unable to see - I can't remember if it was like a fill-the-air-with-dust/smoke kind of vision blocking, or if it was the camouflage guy. But Zoro went like, "wow you only see with your eyes? lol noob" and closed his eyes and easily cut the guy down. It felt like a way to really clearly state that Zoro's missing eye wouldn't have any negative effect on his fighting, which people might have assumed otherwise. I don't know whether that makes it more likely Zoro will have to face Shiryu, or whether that matchup wouldn't make sense cause Zoro already proved he's easily able to fight people he can't see. But maybe there'll be a major difference and it'll be like a mirrored situation where Zoro can't just do the exact same thing he did on Fishman Island, so he'll have to hella power up that skill in some way. Who knows! Maybe he'll have to intentionally blind his other eye, and his strange connections to Issho will get clearer. My personal theory is that Zoro just accidentally got superglue in his eye during the timeskip and when it finally breaks up, as superglue eventually does, he'll have a lazy eye. And thus, finally we will get the promised #1 most iconic pirate accessory that Oda has said he's been sitting on since the start, waiting to give it to an important character; for what cure exists for a lazy eye, but an eyepatch?? (I'm 100% joking ofc but I keep having that thought and it keeps making me laugh lmfao)

I think at some point he’ll get the shodai kitetsu. He’s carried the sandai for almost the entire series. Then he met the bloodline that created the kitetsu blades in Wano. It would be poetic to replace the sandai with the first and strongest sword in the kitetsu series.

V. Nosjuro’s sword hilt looks like a kitetsu blade. Considering how old he is it would make sense that he’s in possession of the first kitetsu blade. We saw how hard Zoro struggled to tame enma a great grade sword, the fact that Nosjuro was able to tame one of the strongest supreme grade cursed blades in the verse is incredibly impressive. His fight with Zoro will prolly be the final step Zoro needs to take before challenging Mihawk.

Well shiriyu also is a master of the silent killing technique and is very good at stealth and wiping his presence. That I’m combination with the invisibility fruit is honestly broken enough to where even if shiriyu isn’t as strong as zoro, being able to be so stealthy even top tier observation users can’t defect you. Zoro getting a sort of clairvoyance in the fight after getting punished while figuring it out would make the fight make sense because right now off scaling and feat zoro is stomping head to head😂.

I think Shanks was purposely handicapping himself when fighting Mihawk. The main logical reasoning behind my statement is that Zoro could not possibly surpass Shanks as well, as that’s something only Luffy is destined to do. If Zoro gets to that level as well, there will be a major imbalance in the one piece world. As in, someone at the level of a Yonko with all types of advanced haki (would have to be to beat Mihawk that’s supposedly on par in terms of strength, with Shanks) does not need to be a number 2. And if he is, then the rivals would have to be at the same level as well, if not a lot stronger even (at least at first). And I simply can’t see Teach being that much stronger than Shanks

I believe at minimum Zoro powerup will be tied to him opening his left eye. It would be crazy if the special Haki that Zoro unlocks is a tracking/gps type. Oda loves to foreshadow abilities and Shanks having two extreme forms of Haki opens the door for Zoro to be the same but on a lower scale than Shanks. Add on mastering Asura and King of Hell Zoro would have a legitimate chance of becoming the world strongest swordsman.

Just a thought on black blades, I think it works simply like devil fruits, specifically zones, they got a will of their own, so probably it's similar for black blades. We've seen time and time again that blades have a will of their own, just like Mihawks, so when Zoro's will aligns with the will of the blade.

I believe that Zoro will def make the Wado Ichimonji Black by the end of the series. Other candidates to turn black aftewards include: Enma Sandai Kitetsu Nidai Kitetsu Shodai kitetsu. I believe that Zoro before he dies will have 5 black blades. He’ll never stop fighting and never stop getting better and most importantly, he’ll be a swordsman that will take several lifetimes to surpass and the main testament of that would be based on the sheer # of Black blades he has. Next, Zoro will def master all 3 forms of Haki and gain deeper access to the Voice and Breath of all things 3, Zoro will likely be a Shogun in Wano like Uchimaru even if for a short time before returning to Shimotsuki Village. 4, If he doesnt die, I believe Zoro will not only battle Shanks to a stalemate in a short battle but willl also inspire him to return to the Strongest swordsman race or at least make him take swordsmanship seriously again 5. Mastering Asura form to the point of being able to manifest single arms or heads at any point in time and coating them in Armament/Conq at anytime

Prior to reading that chapter I thought zoro would only have one black blade. The wado ichimonji. But after reading that I think Zoro may have 2-3 black blades by the end of the series. Easily solidifying himself as the greatest swordsman in history.

Actually, I disagree with the sword swap. I think that he making kitetsu sword a black sword will be a real testament to his skills. Because all of his other sword are of supreme grade but only because of his skills will he able to make his kitetsu blade a black grade. Hence elevating its rank. I also feel that another reason he won’t throw away his sword is because he is connected to all his blade are actually an extension of his body and he can’t simply just throw them away.

I imagine the battle with mihawk versus zoro, zoro remarks how annoying mihawk’s future sight is and how he’s thinking of ways he might be able to counter it. Then, you see mihawk using future sight and he sees that zoro suddenly has a grin on his face, when you see the next page, the page itself is cut by the zoro mihawk is seeing in the future, zoro from the future has some one liner that basically says he knows he was being seen by future sight and mihawk gets kicked out of using future sight and can’t use it anymore for the entire battle

1st the black blade theory. I think this is a no doubt he will end up with at least one but what do you think about zoro needing to experience great betrayal to unlock a black blade? It was mentioned that Mihawk experienced great betrayal but it doesn't specify if he was betrayed or if he was the betrayer. What if Mihawk killed a friend to turn his blade black and now regrets it and that's why he prefers to be alone... 2nd the eye theory. Maybe it's zoro closes his open eye and opens his closed eye which can use advanced observation hakim, which I think would follow the lore that pirates used eye patches over one eye so when it got dark their eye would better already use to no light so they could see right away... 3rd the sword eating devil fruit. What if that process is something simple like blending the fruit to a juice and laying the sword in the juice. The fruits powers and soul are absorbed into the sword...

just a thought, we've been told that Haki is related to a person's soul and will power, so maybe for someone to get a black blade they need to give it a part of their soul , that way it may explain why strong people like Roger and whitebeard didn't get black blades, because they're not as committed to their swords and the "sword way" that mihawk and zoro mentioned a couple of time or at least not committed enough to give up a part of their souls 🤷🏼‍♂

It’s mostly just a great achievement, and it raises the rank of the sword, thus making it stronger. If Zoro turned the Wado ichimonjo or enma into a black blade, they would be upgraded to supreme grade swords.

This is a theory I've had for a while, and want to post it to this channel, and hopefully (if you haven't heard it before) it'll blow your mind! I have an idea of how Black Blades are made in One Piece. Enma is my biggest evidence for this, but it seems there are certain swords who carry a will of their own. Enma seems to have its own will: putting Zoro through trails of draining his Haki, testing his strength, and seemingly having a physical-ish form (that Grim Reaper). Anyway, what if a blade is turned Black when ITS dreams are met. If a sword can have a will, it could also have dreams/desires. Zoro, Mihawk and Ryuma all seem like characters who (probably instinctively) have dreams related to the dream of their swords. Which I think explains why Ace (Roger's Sword) and others did not turn black. They were all focused on their own journey. Kind of out there, seems less likely now that over written it our but I still stand by it! Hope this at least got gears turning 😝

I think, Zoro could have one blade or all three black blades. I feel, once Zoro has an understanding of the "core" of being a true swordsman, with being one with his blades, such as treating them as an extension of his limbs, understanding of himself and clear mind. Here's the thing for me about zoro having a black blade. If he does blacken a blade, I believe it would be his Kitetsu rather than the Wado Ichimonji as the Wado was given to him, as was Yubashiri, as was Shusui, as was Enma. The Sandai Kitetsu is Zoro's only sword that he chose and almost seemed fated to wield. The way he tested his Kitetsu is entirely unlike how he treats his other blades. If a sword can truly have a will, I am sure that it was impressed by his test. Willing to put himself on the line if he was deemed unworthy by the blade. A blade that had been forcefully wielded by all others without its approval, leading to the blade passing from master to master leaving in its trail a wake of carnage. It simply sought one who would show it the respect it felt it deserved. End of this theory rant, have a lovely day.

Now that I have reached 11:30 I feel it is pertinent to mention that Zoro does not in fact have the Nidai Kitetsu, he is in possession of the Sandai Kitetsu. Tenguyama Hitetsu (Oden's father whose real name I am blanking on for some reason rn) has the Nidai Kitetsu.

Please don't flame me for this but I feel like Zoro has been building up a "hawk eye" in his left eye. Similar to Mihawk's eyes, no way those things aren't doing anything. I'm predicting that using this eye, Zoro can replicate some powerful sword techniques and counter any sword technique when he opens that eye. It also looks exactly like Mihawk's eyes. I also think it should require Haki. But that's just me, what do you guys think. Edit: this is headcanon

I think it will be Enma I don’t know if this is a theory but the grim reaper that appeared with Zoro in Wano could be a personification of Enma kind alike Bleach and in order to control Enma Zoro would have to meet that Grim reaper so he can blacken the blade

I think Mihawk is similar to Apis, gifted with observation haki at a young age. He simply used this genetic anomaly and trained his haki to a point most can't achieve.

The more we learn about Shanks the more and more it bothers me that his arm got bit off at the start of the show. With haki this powerful and especially him having such advanced observation haki it should have never happened. It’s almost like a plot hole at this point. What I’m hoping happens is that Oda realizes this too(if he hasn’t planned it already) and makes it to where shanks saw an opportunity and willingly lost his arm so that Luffy would have extra motivation to become a great pirate like him with shanks knowing he had consumed the sun god nika fruit. Yeah I would love for that to be a thing.
