I've been watching your videos about 5 years ago. I still have my 96 sebring. Now it's time to change the plugs. I had another engine put in it. And the guys at the garage didn't put new plugs in. They replaced everything else....anyway I'm currently restoring mine. I'm better at bodywork.....I'm no mechanic. Thanks again. Very much appreciate these videos.

Great video syyenergy7. I was looking all over the web for this info. Recently got a 2000 Sebring JX Conv. that quit running as the previous owner was driving it. They had a lot of backyard mechanics trying to fix it. I got it with vac and electrical lines pulled off all over the engine. I started with a compression test, got 150psi on the lowest reading. put new plugs in and intake back on. Couldn't see what that vac port you showed went to so this was a big help. I like your detailed info!

I am finally ready to tackle this job myself. The mainstream shops are busting heads for this job. And its mainly to get to the 3 plugs under plenum.My first comment was about 4 months back. My 98 Cirrus 2.5L I bought last year with 57,400 now has about 66,400 one month shy of purchase. Runs smooth. Just seem to misfire every now and then when car starts. But notice that the misfire stops or slows down when warmed up and driven for a while. Could this be something else?

EGR or small vacuum leak is also something to consider. Either the EGR may not be seating all the way and that caused the cold drivability problems or at small vacuum leak.

I reused the metal plenum gaskets, but also cleaned them well and used a Spray Permatex gasket dressing, not a gasket-maker, not RTV. It's a spray made to work with metal gaskets to hold them in place and is fuel resistant. It makes for a good seal even when re-using the intake gasket. It's Permatex® High Tack Spray. If you use anything else it will leak.

It could be the small hose that runs to the back of the upper intake from the egr valve. Also listen with a hose at your ear for whistle sounds from the intake while running at various idle speeds. It is possible that you have a small leak.

@L1661N6 Thanks. These cars are fairly difficult to work on, so I hope this makes it a bit easier.

I have a 1997 sebring jx 2.5. On the rear pass. side of the plenum there is a vacuum nipple. Mine has nothing on it and I have a vacuum leak there. Next to it there is an L shaped hose that is open. Can you show me a pic of where these lines should look like from your car?
@syyenergy711 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) Yeah I know how details can make the difference. Glad it made things clearer.

There is a possibility that a non-OEM CPS could cause a rough idle or occasional miss. You may want to try the Seafoam treatment. Also clean the wires from the battery where they are mounted on the body and the Power distribution center well. Simple things like that can create weird problems also. If you change the ignition wires, use Duralast wires from Autozone. I also found some aftermarket wires don't work right with this car.

I just changed my spark plugs last week with the help of this video! Great guide as takin off the upper intake manifold can be daunting. I have a quick question tho... I changed my spark plugs due to rough idling and loss of power, after I replaced those I still seem to have moments in while idling where it seems like the engine may be misfiring. (while sitting at a light.) I just had my dist. and CPS changed 2 mnts ago... could my CPS be a bad one or do I have another problem?

Thanks for the quick response! Is the EGR or small vacuum hose easy to locate and fix? I can definitely look into it.

hi , this is John you where correct I just replaced spark plugs ,wires cap ,rotor , egr valve , which the old ones had red rings on upper half of plug some were orange. the car is running great but service engine pops on and off check codes giving misfire codes again and 02 heater is there a way to check for vacuum leak on manifold

oh, and I know you mentioned just using RTV to re-seal. No need to buy gaskets. Does this include the manifold gasket also? Use RTV for all? Which type? Thanks.
@megasonify12 жыл бұрын
You mentioned the bolts on the backside of the manifold that were hard to reach (yours were missing and never replaced). Well, mine are there. Any secrets to getting these out? Does it help to take the hood off? Thanks and nice video. I'll look for the follow-up video where u change the plugs and replace the manifold.

RTV would Not be for the metal intake gasket. I use a red-colored spray gasket dressing from Permatex for that but that is not necessary. I use Copper Hi-Heat sensor safe RTV for almost everything else.

This was QUITE a bit ago, likely you've found the issue. Wanted to chime in, i'm about to do a little work as i've developed the H2O leak in the water pump area & I am happy syyenergy did these videos, I didn't want INSANE labor costs lol As i'm doin the water pump, may as well replace other items that are worn like spark plugs. Noticed in repair manual that the mfr recommends replacing Plugs/Wires/Dist Cap & Rotor at same time. May've been done as you did the dist, just what I saw >=]
@jeffwingfield536011 жыл бұрын
is there a certain type of sparks plugs that you recommend????
@syyenergy711 жыл бұрын
Jeff Wingfield - The Champion double platinums always work well. For some reason Autolites don't work too well in this car, Autolites are great from GM cars. NGK's work well in this car also.

I am looking for help. I have a 1997 Sebring JXI convertible 6 cylinder. I have had check engine light on for past 30,000 miles (1 year). It throws codes for multiple misfire. I have replaced distributor, plugs and wires with recommended parts via syyenergy7. couple months ago - no change to check engine light, although some codes did change to misfire cylinder 1 & 4. No I have all cylinders misfire codes again. Car runs good, except for recently, the car is beginning to lose RPM and shake a little at stop lights. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
@syyenergy710 жыл бұрын
You cold have a slack timing belt or a belt that jumped one tooth. It's possible considering you did so much other work on the car. You might want to check the front cam and the crank timing marks because the rear cam cover is a real pain to remove. I put a window in my rear cam cover for this reason, so i can check the mark without taking it apart.

Wish u could help me with my 96 sebring ...those other spark plugs in the back seems a little hard to get to ..ugh
@syyenergy711 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are hard to get to. The reason for the long plenum of the upper intake that covers the back valve cover is to give the engine more torque at low rpms. Otherwise a long upper intake would have to stick out of the hood.
@micahthompson136911 жыл бұрын

I am having a problem with a misfires after doing a tune up. I am using autolites, could that be the problem
@syyenergy710 жыл бұрын
It could be the problem, or the wires. The one type of Autolite plugs that do work well in this are are the IRIDIUM ones. The Chrysler PCM (engine management system) definitely does not like some aftermarket parts. I found that out the hard way. You would think it would not matter, but that is not the case at all.

Sebring Convertible, Fix LED Console Light with EL Inverter kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5yupYaGmM-Lpqs The shift indicator lights on the console typically will not work or the light will go out intermittently from time to time. This is a common problem on the Chrysler Sebring convertible The problem of the shift indicator light or console light not working is usually a simple solution that arises from a faulty or defective EL inverter. This video shows how to fix it.

I need help, i have a 2000 Chrysler Sebring lxi,, my check engine and ASB light came on about 3 weeks ago, i went in and got my car looked at and i was told that my o2 censor was going bad and needed to replace or else it could screw up my catalytic converter, well i forgot to change the o2 censor, and last night it stalled on me and would not run, when i try to start it it tries to but just wont turn over, i dont know if it is due to that or it could be my starter since i have had issues with it multiple times in the past month, or just an exposed wire? its done this before and i took the starter off thinking it was it and had it tested at autozone it tested fine and when i placed it back on the car it started up fine, if anyone has any idea and can help it would be appreciated( its also blown thru some fusees in the past which belonged to the starter, checked them and they are fine)
@syyenergy79 жыл бұрын
Hojo Rodriguez The starter might not be good. Especially if it's original starter. They might not have actually LOAD TESTED the starter.
@Rodriguez61909 жыл бұрын
syyenergy7 that is a high possibility i have personally changed that starter 3 times now with 3 different starters and this one came from a salvage yard and is the same year as my car, i will be removing it tomorrow morning once i have good lighting to change it and get it tested, thank you very much
@elswordtsunderesq10999 жыл бұрын
+Hojo Rodriguez I have a 99 Sebring lxi, I have had some of the same issues that you have described. My stepfather who is a mechanic told me that the o2 sensor was going bad when I bought the car with 192xxx miles on it. I had issues starting the car one night in the spring. It was about 42 degrees out and the car would not start up. I kept cranking the car until I heard what sounded like like a sheering noise on a high pressure line. All of the sudden the car started up but I lost power steering after the car stalled again. This was after I had the starter replaced, but I am wondering now if it is possible for the water pump to seize up and sheer. I have not seen the radiator fans turn on, but my engine temps seem to be normal. I have inspected underneath the car after changing the oil recently, and I have noticed some oil on the cv boot. This could indicate a bad rack and pinion, but I can't say for sure because I haven't done a pressure check on that assembly. Can anyone help shed some light on this issue?

I have a 2000 Chrysler sebring convertible and it's going to suck having to go through all of this to change the spark plugs!!!
@syyenergy710 жыл бұрын
The main part that can be a problem is stripped threads. Previous owners installed helicoils to fix the threads and they did not hold up. I used steel inserts and that is better than the factory. The video explains the steel inserts, if you need to use them.
@syyenergy710 жыл бұрын
The stripped threads were on the intake manifold. Watch for the work done by prior "clowns" who don't do things correctly.
