I feel like you and HTHaze would make a great collab on some reviews. You seem like you groove more to the instrumental first. HTHaze seems super into the instrumental too, but a little more toward the lyrics side. You both have great vibes and seem to just love music for what it is.. something that evokes feelings. Not necessarily something to deconstruct. If it is super simple and makes you feel something, it's still good.

*Seek and Destroy, and half of those Genius lyrics were grossly incorrect! LOL. I'm not sure how you got tired after the first six tracks; R&B must not be your go to genre cause she hit this out of the park. There were some very weird moments throughout this like bashing Benny's appearance. 🥴 Idk, weird all around.
@howtheturntables
@howtheturntables Жыл бұрын
She absolutely hit it out of the park! R&B is usually a kick back and chill thing for me rather than a “let’s sit down for 1.5 hours and pick this apart” thing. I just have a hard time sitting still and really intently focusing on something for this long (unless it is just constantly throwing me curve balls or it’s like super upbeat) - and that’s absolutely a ME thing not a her thing lol! And I’m not bashing Benny’s appearance! 😂 Every time I see a video of him pop up he just has this half asleep look and he’s always trolling somebody about something. He’s a funny dude I just think his facial expressions are funny 😂. Sorry you didn’t like the video though, this is just a first reaction (not a review by any means) and I guess I’m a weird dude so my reactions sometimes reflect that and it’s alright if my personality isn’t for everyone. I’m just having fun and listening to good music. I genuinely appreciate you watching and giving it a shot though!! 🙏🏻

tired of hi hat hate it’s a staple for trap it’s not our fault that other genres have run hi hats into the ground bc they want to sound more like rap
@howtheturntables
@howtheturntables Жыл бұрын
(Sorry for writing a book but I just really love talking about music and this is an interesting topic to me) I’m perfectly fine with hi hat in the right setting. Hip hop is my most listened to genre so I’d be pretty SOL if I hated hi hat ALL the time lol. I just really appreciate it when an artist or producer decides to go another route and get a little more creative considering how prominent it’s use has been in popular music over the years. I’m an audio engineer though so I recognize that I tend to listen to music differently than some, and I totally get that! I am, however, confident that the heavy trap-inspired hi hat in popular music of the last decade or so will eventually fade and become and age-defining sound, similar to what heavy reverb was to popular music in the 80s. In the 80s nearly every hit song became defined by a handful of iconic sounds, one of the most defining sounds being heavy reverb on vocals, snare drums, and basically everything lol! It defined that whole era-it was and is iconic! But, like everything else that becomes popular, it got hot and was HEAVILY used for years and years, then eventually listeners got their fill and new songwriters and producers began getting bored, so they started moving other directions in hopes of finding a new sound and carving out a new place in music. And thus, that iconic, reverb drenched, synthy, 80s sound became an era-defining relic and fond memory of the past. Now of course, as we know, that classic 80s sound has been resurrected once more and has since made a total renaissance thanks to artists like The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, and countless other pop/r&b artists of this era. So, much like 90s baggy pants and 80s synths, everything does seem to come back around eventually! Heavy trap-inspired hi-hat will probably (eventually) follow a similar path. Of course trap will likely continue to be an influential genre for years to come but other genres are already moving new directions and I’m sure even trap itself will expand and find new ways and sounds to express and evolve itself, to some degree-even if hi hat remains a staple feature. And I think that’s a good thing. Years ago when I was in audio school, many of my classmates who were hip hop producers were already experimenting and looking for new ways to explore the genre and find a new sound bc that specific sound had already been around for a while even then (5 or so years ago). I mean, it has successfully defined a whole era of music, bled into & inspired many other genres, and gave us countless bangers and classics! But as a music fan I’m always ready for music to evolve and give me something new. It’s good for artists, producers, songwriters, engineers, and listeners alike. Gen A will inevitably grow up and become adults and, like every other generation before, start their own trends and laugh at how dated music in the 2010s and 2020s sounded. And that fast hi hat will likely be a defining feature of that era, similar to that super wet snare reverb in the 80s. It’s not a bad thing. It’s just how art goes! Thanks for watching and commenting! I appreciate any opportunity to reflect on and talk about music!
