This is really, really good content. Never heard someone talk about conditioning in such a nuanced way. Dave is awesome!

Very well articulated, the point about just loading up the sled or loading up the farmer's handles because that's what us meatheads do. Maybe I need to start keeping my sleds to 90 lbs or so at the end of a workout. There's something to Dan John's idea about putting 60-80 lbs in each hand and going for a LONG walk until you have to drop them, rather than 200lbs a hand.

haha a 45 lb sled can quickly go to 200+lbs when you are a meathead. I totally agree and will be implementing this myself.

In running this is super common, instead of having hard run days and easy run days, people go to hard on the easy days because they want to "feel" like they are doing something, now they can't run hard enough on the hard days so they just end up with 2 mediocre training days.

That is so true, I did this until I started on a structured running program and went off of my hear rate to to manage the intensity. At first it felt so slow but a few months into it I saw the benefits and how to manage the intensity better.

Work for me is more or less a light to medium weight loading race (totes filled with stuff onto pallets after laying the pallets/stacking bad ones, heavy construction supplies, etc) so I kind of get a steady state cardio/weighted conditioning for 9-11 hours every weekday. I find it really helps my lifting, which I do 4-5 days a week. I've found it's very helpful in building that strength base. Since moving to a conjugate based training program in 2021, I've noticed how increasing that strength floor has become more important over time. It allows me to start working strength development focused 3 week waves whenever I want to push the strength ceiling higher. Given that the conditioning I stated is my job, there's no way for me to periodize it the way discussed in the video. Dave is definitely right on what he says.

I can't find really good videos on organizing/programming strongman events. Could you perhaps do a video like that Joey?

Love this content. I really need to add EMOMs in a bit more frequently, but I find that it is so much easier to do then when working out with someone cause you can amp each other up.

agreed! as simple as it sounds I'm focusing a lot more on my intention with each session prior to the session. I may even write it down to keep myself accountable and making sure I stick to the plan!

Thanks for the video, I need motivation to do cardio because I don’t like it. I’m going to try and walk a mile 2-3x a week

Good content! Sometimes gets a little too far into the nitty gritty for me with Dave, still some of the best content with all of his knowledge, but this one had a lot of good points. It's insane how cardio averse powerlifting or just overall strength training can be. Just a big excuse.

He knows so much so it can be a lot to grasp at times, but I always leave the conversation with a golden nugget I'm excited to implement into my training philosophy.
