I always thought that Szayelapporo's defeat said a lot about Mayuri Kurotsuchi. This kind of intellect battle was echoed later with Urahara's trap for Aizen, where Aizen was defeated, not just with strength and technique, but by intelligence.

He and his brother more than earned their stay in hell. His ultimate fate of being killed by another mad scientist while being shown the folly of his obsession with perfection that leads to stagnation was perfect. Definitely among the worst in Bleach's rogue's gallery.

heard several people say that anything NOT originally written by Kubo (even though done with his approval / guidance) is not canon while others say the opposite...

@@thebleachverse Kubo worked with the guy who wrote the novels, they're canon. Stuff from the novels have even been included in the TYBW anime, which kubo is also overseeing.
