I found this video to be pretty interesting(and funny).I was in the USMC(airwing) from '63-'67 and my job description was "Safety and Survival Tech."(6443). We(in the seat shop) handled everything that had to do with pilot safety and environment. Ejection sys.(seats and ordnance actuators) /Canopy /pressurization /Air Conditioning /Oxygen .... the "Parachute Riggers" dealt with Helmets /Oxy. Masks-intercom /Clothing & Boots / Survival Packs(seat) / and Parachutes. We all worked out of the same shop and did it all (usually working off stands or lift beds - no hoists - all muscle power. we would "disarm the seat - the riggers would remove the chutes & seat packs - one guy would stand on the canopy rail and lift the seat up/out and pass it to the guy on the lift. reverse for installation ....

can you jettison the canopy without ejecting?

on most jet/seat systems there is a "canopy jettison" handle that works independently of the ejection handle(s) ....... if however you initiate the "ejection sequence"(handle(s)) it's all going in whatever sequence that A/C was designed for(and there is no stopping it) ....... usually canopy/rear seat/front seat . on some older systems the seat went through the canopy(F-4 Phantom)
