So, I got a theory about this movie and why it always seems to sync up with Tatu. It's the honest answer everyone thinks- because Tatu is a lesbian band or at least gave off lesbian messages in their music and videos. And this movie, despite how it is taken in the Pagan world as being a positive or negative thing- I think the lesbian theory shouldn't be over looked. I think this whole movie could be seen, not as a movie about witch craft, but a movie about being lesbians or bisexual and dealing with it. Nancy, obviously sexually abused and has seen ugly things comes off as violent and bully-ish and she really seems to get off at times on hurting others because of the power it gives her. Why? Because so much of her own self respect or 'power' was taken away. Bonnie thinks she is ugly and shy in her eyes and then when she becomes pretty she is more loose and loses herself. This could be seen as someone going from shy and in the closet to suddenly coming out and losing control of themselves as if trying to make up for lost time. No self control can be dangerous. Rachelle I feel bad for, she is literally just the racial stereotype in this movie. The poor black girl who gets bullied and then ends up seeing how bad it is when you let yourself get down to the level of those assholes who bully you. honestly she was pretty, she didn't have self worth issues or abuse issues besides the racism stuff. But I think if given more time in the movie, they could of done more with her. -shrugs- And Sara is the bisexual who isn't sure of herself. She nearly gets raped by the guy she crushes on. The first thing she does is run to her friends and not her family or the police. I know some girls instinctively go to their friends for support, and this could have been the case too- supporting this theory even more, but Sara is the smart and bold one so she would of known to go and get help- not run to my friends. Nancy also gets jealous over the guy, because Sara is with him.... or... because he is with Sara? She did feel him up, true. But she did not go to that party just to hook up and leave, that was obvious. She wanted him to feel like a slut, to know how the hurt feels when he and the whole school treat them like second class people- a lot like another group of people and how THEY get treated at times in society. The magic they use only seems to work at first when they come together, blocking out the rest of the world and only open up to each other and their mutual shared interests. Each character manages to empower and better the other, fixing many of the damages that the world has done to them. But it comes with a price. Being that free they see things they don't like about each other. One who has lost their inhibitions, one who is becoming controling and even a bit violent and another who is just as snobby as those who bullied them. The magic between them was becoming dangerous. The relationships were becoming toxic and even the outside world whispered about it. It wasn't until Nancy had a violent break down and ends up getting locked up and Sara learns that she didn't really need the others girls and their insecurities and faults empowerment to feel the magic. It was all in her and she could walk away to do what she is meant to do. As for Rachelle and Bonnie... they... hook up? Even in the movie, this is more or less how it plays out. Yes, I know I could be reading into it way too much and this is all just a theory. But think about how many tatu and The Craft tributes you see and why they all seem to fit and capture a sort of spirit.
