The tubist that we need, but not the one that we deserve right now.

You have given me a great deal to think about that will help me eventually make a difficult decision regarding my main tuba and where I will be going, horn-wise. Thanks. Very helpful video!

Okay, so five years later I am back to tell you that I have an appointment at Dillon Music to buy one of these horns one week from today. What can I say? I take time to make such decisions. I love my Holton 345. But it is time to give one of these a try. Thanks again.

Thank you for uploading these videos. I am a student tubist looking to buy my first horn, your reviews are very helpful! Also, I noticed you take a lot of breaths wherever you need to. For some reason I always felt that I take too many breaths when playing and seeing you has made me realize I do not take any at all! Thanks again!

Please don't stop making these videos Chris I Am a tuba player at University of Texas at El Paso, I'm the principal player here and I love these videos and I pass them on to my underclassmen and peers. Also just an added note in case you do read this, if your in the market for a Big Rotor BBb I'm selling my Alexander 164 with removable bell. The ad is on Tubenet if you are interested in more info.

Mr. Olka, thank you very much for these videos. I believe the T&E series will fill a very important, untapped void in the tuba community. I'm actually in the market for a "bigger" (5/4 or 6/4) CC tuba. I've been using a miraphone 1291 CC. This has gotten me through my undergrad, through the Army School of Music, and allowed me to do some work with some regional symphonies. Though I've had a great time getting acquainted with a miraphone 188 owned by my unit, I've been trying out some larger alternatives and would like to get a 6/4 CC both as a matter of preference and to hopefully improve my chances at winning auditions with an orchestra down the road. The usual horns that have caught my attention are the PT-6p, PT-7p, PCK, and etc. Now this horn seems to be gaining a lot of attention. I plan on trying out this horn asap, but is this a horn that you believe a young player can feel confident taking into a professional audition? My apologies if this comes off as blunt and once again, I look forward to seeing more of these videos.

Eric Byard , if it means anything, I’m having a very fine high school student of mine buy one as his first CC. I have no reservations about these tubas. Thanks for the kind words and good luck!

Would it be possible for you to see about reviewing one of the Wessex brand 6/4 CC tubas, like the Chicago Presence or the Chicago York? I’m interested in buying one but no one else has a video about them, and I’d rather not invest that much money with no reviews and end up not liking it.

Thanks for all your great videos, Chris! As others have stated, I would love to see a video of your impressions on the new Wessex 6/4 CC, and also the BMB 6/4 CC (which I think you have played before). You are my Mount Rushmore hero for CC sound and approach, so I'd love to know your opinions on all the new(ish) 6/4 horns that have popped up recently!

Chris, I am in the market for a CC tuba now that college is around the corner. I really enjoy this model and have playtested it before. The model is a bit more expensive than what i can afford. I was wondering if you could maybe do a T&E video on Eastmans EBC632 model. It is just what im looking for and would like to compare it to the 836. Thank you.

I have heard that you have played Miraphone's Siegfried, apparently a great rotor Bb tuba. I think the Horn Guys have a Hagen 496 5/4 rotor Bb tuba. This horn would be worth an edition of your T&E series. Also, Nirchl's recent "Boland and Fuchs" Bb tuba copy, but I don't know where you could test it though. Looking forward to your Bb tuba reviews.

That Nirschl B&F is amazing instrument. I'm hoping to get some time to learn to play it so I can post some videos with it. Testing this instrument if pretty difficult as I got one here in Finland and only one other has been made if I got it right. The other (no.1) is at Nirschl shop, in Luxemburg or somewhere with Yasuhito Sugiyama. Saw him trying it at Nirschl's but don't know if he bought the old one or ordered a new one.

This is probably a redundant question since you said you used it in a professional setting for a day, but for the sake of reassurance, would you say this horn is adequate for everyday professional use? I'm only a senior in high school so I don't plan on buying something like this anytime soon, but I have to admit, horns like this are tempting because they're far more affordable than ones that are made by companies that have established their level of quality already.

Jordan Oliveira, I’d in no way consider this anything less than a professional level instrument.

Chris Olka thank you! Food for thought for the future. Your videos are very helpful by the way. I forget the name of the drill, but I sometimes use the one where you slur up through all the octaves of C, down chromatically in each cycle, and back down through the C's. I find that it helps me with a few things, especially centering the pitches in the upper range.
