RIP Robert Loggia who was one of my favorite actors. Great Show, as I was devastated when this show was canceled. The dialogue in this show was superb, and the actors and the guest stars, especially Robert Duvall (Crossing at Destino Bay), Diana Muldaur(in this episode) and Sorrel Booke (First episode: To Kill a Priest) were outstanding. My parents were horrified how attached I was to this series at 8-9 years of age, but to me T.H.E. Cat was the coolest guy on TV at the time.

The reason is because this show hasn't been rerun in years due to it only lasting one season, and thus, the show's not as popular as it should be (it isn't even popular enough to be on DVD or Blu-Ray.)

I must have watched every episode when I was in middle school. I even made a few attempts at (harmless) cat burglary, dressed all in black. Then there was the fact that the characters last name was like mine! So that made it all the more intriguing to me and friends. I was also watching The Prisoner, with Patrick Magohan, and programs like The Avengers, and The Man From U.N.C.L.E! The 60's had some great shows in those days.

My favorite show of the 1966 season, which followed "The Man From Uncle" at 9:30 PM on Friday night starting on September 16, 1966. I also recall that the advertisement for the show that was played quite a bit during the summer of 1966, used the confrontation around 21:00 to 21:11 as a major portion of the ad. Unfortunately, I could not get any of my friends to like the show. But I liked it for some reason.

Unfortunately that's not going to happen as Paramount junked the film negatives back in the late 1970s. From what I can gather all that remains of this series are two very worn 16mm telecine prints that a TV station forgot the return to Paramount decades ago and were found during a clearout in 2005. If that's all there really is then unless Paramount are prepared to pour a lot of money into digitally remastering those prints, which seems unlikely, then they will probably never be seen by the public again.
@Neville60001
@Neville60001 Жыл бұрын
@@trevorbrown6654, even if Paramount (now CBS Studios) hadn't junked the original master negatives, the show doesn't have enough of a sales basis for Paramount Home Video/CBS Video to do a restoration job and put it on DVD/Blu-Ray themselves (of course, Shout Factory can alwways do this _if_ a full set of said original masters existed.)

Reggie Nalder also starred in the 1970 horror classic,"MARK OF THE DEVIL" as "the evil witch finder",and made dozens of guest starring TV and film roles,before he died.

I barely remember anything about this series--of which I think I saw very little--but the one thing I remember is how much I liked Loggia in the role. I was a young teenager then, and I thought he was so cool! I do wonder, seeing this right after watching the pilot episode: How many episodes were of such strained similarity? This one and the pilot were both about a man marked for death with a quite specific time left in which to live. And in both, the man responsible for the murder-to-be is known, and Cat goes to visit both of them, with the same kind of "read between the lines" dialogue taking place. Regardless, thanks for the posting. Great to see T.H.E. Cat in action again.

This was the Golden Age of prime time television. This was a cool show, as the "secret agent" formula was "in" with the success of James Bond, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and The Avengers. We also had Get Smart as a spoof, and Mission Impossible. Writing and acting were good, and America and the world were entertained. Somehow this lost out to brainless sitcoms, reality shows and endless politically correct propaganda on television. Writers got lazy, and that's where we are today. I threw the newspaper for a year to buy a portable black and white TV to watch these great shows. I can't get through a prime time show these days. That's an indicator as to our present state. Good thing we now have KZbin....and a lot of good books. Too bad the originals of this show have been destroyed.

_The Beverly Hillbillies_ was well known due to it being onTV for a lot of seasons, henceforth why it was made into a movie: _T.H.E. Cat_ wasn't that well known because it only lasted one season and wasn't rerun a lot, or at all ( a show needs two or three full seasons to be put into syndication as reruns in North America, and most outlets won't rerun a show that only lasted one sdeason and was canclled.)

Unfortunately, it appears that the only two episodes that survive are the two here on KZbin. From IMDb: "As of December 2020 the film negatives for this series no longer exist. They were last recorded as being in the Paramount film and television archives in the mid 1970s but it is thought they were either deliberately or accidentally destroyed in a purge to free up storage space for more recent shows in the late 1970s. The only remnants left of the show (like those on KZbin) are from a couple of very worn telecine prints that were discovered in the vault of a local television station in the early 2000s."
