There is a great sin in Christianity. Remember the Lord's words were "love one and other so that all men will know you are my disciples". When the eastern and western church split, that allowed the enemy to move in. Division is not of Jesus Christ, but then enemy of our soul -- the devil. Hence, Byzantium had traitors in its midst, and the west church did not want to help against the Ottomans. In conclusion, the Ottoman's took over the Eastern roman empire. Just like when Adam and Eve first sinned, the enemy became the ruler of this current world. But one day. when the King of kings comes, all things will be restored to their perfect order. That also includes Byzantium. This hymn should be dedicated to the Lord. It is Jesus who fights for us in life. Amen.

'They go as they came'. The city was born in greatness and died gloriously with nothing to be ashamed of. Constantine XII's heroic end defending his city is truly an inspiration which spans the centuries. But don't forget the Ottomans built on that greatness and took it to a new height. There is something special about this city.

That English "translation" of this wonderful hymn rendered here is both inaccurate and horrendously heretical... It is NOT some national Anthem of some defunct now, empire, but a Thanksgiving (from the City of Constantinople), to the Theotokos and Ever-virgin Mary for her answering the pleading of the City, and averting a takeover by the Hagarenes, at that time. If you cannot or will not understand this ... don't bother including rubbish "translations" of said hymn on your upload.🙂

My Orthodox brothers & sisters, let us not fall for the agenda of those who sought to aggrandize themselves falsely by imposing the term Byzantium on the Christian Roman Empire. There never was a Byzantium, what was was rather the Christian Roman Empire (Orthodox--Orthodoxy, the true Christian Faith, began on Pentecost), which had Constantinople as its capital, as opposed to the pagan Roman Empire, which had Rome as its capital. The heretic Franks wanted to claim their kingdom was the continuation of the Roman Empire, but they had neither the Faith of, nor political, historical, cultural continuity from the Christian Roman Empire, which though smaller than it had been (its western territories were lost) continued in the East, with the same capital it had had, which was established by the first Christian Roman Emperor Constantine, in Constantinople. Thus, they needed to impose the term Byzantium on the Christian Roman Empire, so that they themselves (imposters) could claim falsely to be the continuation of the Roman Empire--they called their kingdom "the Holy Roman Empire". But it was neither holy, nor Roman. It was not even an empire. But they could not make that absurd claim without concocting & imposing the meaningless term "Byzantium" on the Christian Roman Empire, which, though smaller than it had been, continued to exist, with Constantinople as its capital, as established by the first Christian Roman Emperor, Constantine the Great. To this day, following ancient practice from the time of the Christian Roman Empire, the Ecumenical Patriarch addresses the Greek Orthodox people of Constantinople as Romans. And to this day, unchanged from the time of the Christian Roman Empire, in Jerusalem (likewise in Antioch, Syria) the Greek Orthodox are called Rum Orthodox (Roman Orthodox) because we are Roman Orthodox & our Faith, the only true & salvific Faith is Rum Orthodoxy (the Roman Orthodox Faith). This is important, so please research this for yourselves.

Some clarifications about the correct translations: the subject of the second and third verses is the city itself, which metaphorically sings the anthem. It would be something like, "I, the city, liberated from the troubles, give thanks to you, mother of God (Theotoke is the vocative case)". The fourth and fifth verses are a petition to the Virgin: "But, since you posess the invincible power, set me free from all dangers".

not such thing as a "national anthem" and even less for a "byzantine" empire
@agiasf73307 ай бұрын
It is the Anthem of the City. It is the Anthem of Orthodox. But you are right about "Byzantine". Let us not fall for the agenda of those who sought to aggrandize themselves falsely by imposing the term Byzantium on the Christian Roman Empire.

@@dorothy-z Roman Empire is the same as Byzantine empire which is the same as the Greeks. The latins fell to the goths and lombards barbarians a thousand years before and were amalgamated into the Italy we know today. The Roman Empire continued in the Greek speaking east. The heirs and successors of Rome are therefore 100% the Greeks
