Hello CCY, I'm Malaysian, I understand Hakka and I got Hainanese ancestry. Hainanese is now a language that is going to extinct next generation like Hakka in Taiwan. I understand Hainanese but cannot really speak because I don't have much opportunities to learn and speak in daily life. Even though I can speak Cantonese, Hokkien, Chinese, English and Malay fluently, I feel sad for not able to speak Hainanese when my cousins slightly older than me are able to communicate with elderly without issues. My family members are now finding ways passing down the culture such as cooking traditional Hainanese food. I truly hope Hainanese language and culture can be passed down to the next generation.
