Info about the song:
Dark is the Night (Тёмная ночь, lit. Dark Night) is a famous Russian song associated with the Great Patriotic War. It was originally performed by Mark Bernes in the 1943 war film Two Soldiers.
The song was composed by Nikita Bogoslovsky (1913-2004), lyrics by Vladimir Agatov specially for the film Two Soldiers. Leonid Utyosov, without knowledge and without permission of authors and film unit, recorded the song, thus becoming the first to do so, but it was Bernes' performance that made it so popular. In the film, Bernes is a soldier who recalls his wife and baby at night while singing the song.
The official experts were keen to accuse Bogoslovsky of propagating "Philistine" sentimental tunes. Though ostracized by the authorities, the song became a symbol of the war years for millions of Russians.
Dark Is the Night has been described as "a gentle lyrical song imbued with a feeling of homesickness and expressing devotion to one's beloved" which helped "reveal the personal side of army life, indiscernable in the roar of warfare" It contrasted sharply with the prevalent type of war song, which was either a field marching song or a civil patriotic one.

my great-grandfather was a gunslinger. he fought near Moscow and Leningrad. they were commissioned for 2 severe wounds at 43. his wife thought he was dead because a funeral letter came, but it turned out that he was alive. he lived up to 95 years old, never talked about the war and did not listen to military songs.

my grandfather was a signalman in the second world war, he received a shell shock and many field wounds fighting for our territories. After the end of the war, he constantly listened to this song (as I was told) and because of this it (the song) became a family song for me.

V tyomnuyu noch' ty, lyubimaya, znayu, ne spish', I u detskoy krovatki taykom ty slezu utiraesh'. Kak ya lyublyu glubinu tvoikh laskovykh glaz, Kak ya khochu k nim prizhat'sya khot' raz gubami! Tyomnaya noch' razdelyaet, lyubimaya, nas, I trevozhnaya, chyornaya step' prolegla mezhdu nami. Veryu v tebya, v doroguyu podrugu moyu. Eta vera ot puli menya tyomnoy noch'yu khranila... Radostno mne, ya spokoen v smertel'nom boyu: Znayu, vstretish' s lyubov'yu menya, chto b so mnoy ni sluchilos'. Smert' ne strashna, s ney vstrechalis' ne raz my v stepi... NICE! I noticed that in most Soviet songs you put in the symbol of the Russian Empire

Thanks for noticing! Yes, that is because in order to reflect first when the song was made, but then remind everyone the 𝑨𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝑹𝒖𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒂, and it's spirit, since all so called "soviet" period songs were simply russians songs of the time, and luckily 99% of the time didn't praise the soviet ideology etc. so, they really have nothing to do with "soviet" things; we may call that the ones that praised communism and etc. of the time

Белорусы веками сражались за право остаться православными. Быть православным славянином в то время и значило - быть русским. Вы не можете так просто утверждать клеветнические заключения о моём народе, не зная его истории.
