refugee camps were setup by the CIA not Thai government the Thai ppl don't want us in their country but because of pressure from UN and U.S. CIA funding they took us in.The US paid for every refugee to the thai government. If no money came from the US Thai would not set up refugee camps. There are stories of the Thai border guards shooting LAO citizen and pushing them in the water to drown. Just FYI since you want to thank country that didn't want us.
My parents took us across in 1980.I was 10yrs old.I remembered that we didn't go through as dangerous as the lum claims. My dad's relatives picked us up with their fishing boat.We came in at Nakhon Phanom.Stay at Ubon camp for three months and came to the US.The story in lum is very sad.Thank you for sharing.
