Sublime. As one who started his studies in western percussion as a child, eastern music came to me as a young adult. At a time where such new sounds for my ears became the inspiration of a journey that has captivated my soul and spirit for the lion's share of my life. Your playing has brought back wondrous memories of a ten year journey to learn about r'izz'. Am I writing that correctly? It's a roll patterned that uses an under-turned thumbnail that creates a flam effect when playing a single-stroke roll with one or more fingers. I heard it on a cassette recording back in the mid-80's with no other information other than the recording on a cassette tape. I did not have access to teachers who could share that with me until a heard a friend, at a camping event playing rizz. The concept was right there in front of me from the very beginning of this search. I just was imaginative enough at the time to have put it together. That said the journey of ten years was worth it. The skills I developed during that time has enriched my life and I hope others. Thank you for your music.
