Why Should We Reject the Sixth Uncanonical Patriarch? There are several significant reasons to reject the sixth uncanonical patriarch: 1) The primary reason is his blatant disregard for church canon. According to #30 (or #31) in The Apostolic Canons: "If any bishop obtains possession of a church by the aid of temporal powers, let him be deposed and excommunicated, along with all who communicate with him." 2) The situation surrounding Abune Anthonios, the confessor, remains inadequately resolved. 3) Two uncanonical patriarchs, Abune Dioscoros and Abune Kerlos, were improperly designated as the fourth and fifth patriarchs while Abune Anthonios was still living. 4) After the passing of Abune Anthonios, the confessor, it took an astonishing three years for this patriarch to be appointed. He should technically be regarded as the fourth patriarch, not the sixth. 5) In fact, it should have taken no more than 40 days after the death of the fifth patriarch, Abune Kerlos, on March 12, 2022, for a new patriarch to be established. However, it is painfully evident whose interests the Synod prioritizes, leading to a prolonged vacancy in the Holy Church's leadership. 6) In the Orthodox Tewahdo Church, the patriarch is expected to occupy a revered position, guiding all the faithful with a commitment to forgiveness and genuine reconciliation with our history. We can only hope that this holds true. 7) For our prayers to be sincerely heard and for divine blessings to flourish among our people, the Church must welcome all its children with open arms rather than push them away. “With all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism” Ephesians 4:2-5 May He protect the church that He acquired by His blood! Peace be upon our country.
