What I love about these is that they sound like a dimed amp. If you want more highs just put a GE7 in front. Using the EQ and the volume and tone controls on my guitar I can get it so its genuinely indistinguishable to an overdriven tube. Love em.

Good review 👍......I enjoyed your playing and enthusiasm 😁 I just bought the Mudhoney II this week - looking forward to really trying it out in our rehearsal room (Vox AC30, Duesenberg Starplayer TV Mike Campbell model and a Peavey Omniac Jerry Donahue model) asap. Stay safe 👍

I love the sound of 3 T-Rex pedals stacked into a Fender amp (HRD, DeVille, Blues Jnr iii or IV, Deluxe Reverb) with these 3 being my fave in this order: Comp Nova Alberta Mudhoney Alternatively, the Moller V1 works instead of the Alberta or, you can run all 4 for an amazing range of tones! I haven't tried the Moller 2 but apparently it can approximate King of Tone sounds!

For what’s its worth, the reissue made in china versions are selling on reverb for $150-$250, and Sweetwater is selling the made in China reissue for $279. I just bought direct from t-Rex effects website a reissue made in Denmark for $144 brand new including shipping.

I just got the old version today, coincidentally with a black barefoot button, and it sounds amazing. I just hope I never come across the danish collection in person as I would probably react the same way you have with yours! Cheers!

old box sounds darker and more compressed low mids. New box sounds higher headroom bit hollow compared to old box. Both sound great your choice depends on what sounds good for you.

Bought the new one for £85. I love it. I use it as a solo boost. Gives a mid boost with girth. Different sound to my green rhino screamer. My ears tell me quality 🌴

They're both great pedals. I know the reason they started making the Mudhoney 2 was because they kept having people buy two of the regular ones and setting one as a boost and one as a distortion, so they put two of them in one enclosure. Good idea, but supposedly they don't sound as good as these.
@danfango13334 жыл бұрын
No need for science. Better is better. I favour overdrive more than distortion, but this new pedal is sweet. It's still on my board. Has enough mids to kick on and cut through for solos. Different flavour to my Green Rhino. Full. Rich Harmonics. Singing tone. And I'm a soul guy!
@guitarfreak5854 жыл бұрын
It really is a great pedal. Very versatile, lots of really usable sounds in all positions. Thats why they started making the two in one version, so you could have a low gain and a solo tone in one pedal. It's not up to the standard on these two pedals though
@nym0534 жыл бұрын
Both sounds great, but yes the handmade one sounds a bit more defined.
@guitarfreak5854 жыл бұрын
Definitely. It feels a bit less mushy also, bit more headroom. Theyre both great though.
@mattgilbert734711 ай бұрын
Agreed, although the standard one might work better into a really bright amp like a VOX AC15/30 top boost or some Fenders. Handbuilt/Danish version into a slightly darker amp eg: HiWatt, some Marshall-type amps, the Fender Bassbreaker 15/30r in mid-gain mode, Jet City JCA22H (Soldano designed), ENGL, etc

What’s the difference between the new version and the old version I have an old mud honey one I’m looking at there tremolo red one got a switch instead of black button what is the difference do they both sound the same am I better to hunt down a second example of the tremolo or buy a new version of it which has metal switch
@onewiththings2 жыл бұрын
I would imagine the differences are just small differences in the values of the components like potentiometers and such. Several years on, do you still prefer the new one?
@guitarfreak5852 жыл бұрын
The hand built one is still on my board and is my main distortion. I have a Kingtone Duellist now that might get used a bit more but thats mainly because we don't use as much gain on a lot of songs.

@@guitarfreak585 Cool thanks. I'm also considering the Mudhoney II. I recently got a PRS S2 Vela, too. Awesome guitars! Thanks for your reply.

How much do you think the Handbuilt ones are worth now? I see one on Reverb for $215 and have one of the Danish Collection ones so would sell that if I bought the Handbuilt. Awesome playing and comparison!

This pedal is good to play grunge?this have a good distorcion??great review
@guitarfreak5854 жыл бұрын
I would think so! It's a huge thick sounding distortion, I think it would be a good one for just about anything shy of like really tight palm muted metal. However, with another pedal before or after to help shape it, it could do that too.

Great playing and comparison. To me it sounds like you dialed them up to pretty much to sound the same! I was thinking of getting a new Danish handmade from Sweetwater, since I see no used ones, but it is $279 and the original non handmade one sounds pretty much just like it on my youtube with earbuds (yes known limitations), and I could get a used one for about $130....again based on this video I definitely don't hear the difference to warrant that much of a price difference. Any updated thoughts comparing the two since you've made the video? Thanks!
@guitarfreak5855 жыл бұрын
The difference is in clarity and harmonics really. It reacts differently (better) with my guitar than the regular one, and it just feels different. BUT, I was really happy with the normal one for a few years, and if I hadn't got the Hand-built one I'd still be using that one now. I think you'll be happy either way.

Anyone notice how the Danish version plops when turned on.?
@guitarfreak5854 жыл бұрын
It's definitely got a different switch on it. It feels better to click on, the chinese one feels weird, hard to tell by feel if you've kicked it on at all.
@masternippleblaster3 жыл бұрын
@@guitarfreak585 That might be true yet with that "plop" I wouldn't be happy at all - imagine going in front of the house with the rig and booom, you blow someones eardrum clean off with that annoying discharge... Nah, deal-breaker for me on any pedal...

I don't have the amp mic'ed so I'm sure there's some high end loss, but they're definitely darker sounding than a lot of distortion pedals, hence the mud in the name. But they really sing out. I love them both.
@Stereostupid3 жыл бұрын
It does sound better but you should know that everything has to be tweaked differently on every single pedal.. I have 4 klons copies and to get them to sound similar you can't set the knobs the same at all .. but you are correct the hand wired one does sound crisper and not as muddy
@guitarfreak5853 жыл бұрын
Yeah I got them to sound pretty similar on the video, the only difference to me at those settings was the feel, the hand built one felt a little less spongy, but it may be in my head.
